They feel that their website is a competitive tool to create and maintain fan interest in the team. The NHL taking it and making it cookie cutter makes it less so in their opinion.
In a way I want to agree with them (the Rangers/MSG). The team is still a business that fights for advertising dollars, merchandising revenues, and ticket sales.
How is the rangers site any different the the rest of the sites anyway? unless they changed it since the lawsuit they still have the nhl portal to link to all the team sites', they still have the top story scroll through the top 4 stories with pictures, etc. the only thing I see different is their banner is rather unflashy comparably and they have links to MSG interests (non ranger events/tickets)
I'm all for consistency. The Kings site was total garbage before the NHL revamped it for them.
