Tampa Bay Lightning - News: Lightning Acquire Rights To Ryan Malone, Gary Roberts - 06/28/2008
tampa just got some pretty good depth....now if they can add one more scorer/sniper and if smith plays very well, they'll be ready to make a strong push to go far in the playoffs.

The Melrose era begins in Tampa Bay by trying to acquire big guys who are ...
A. "Hard to play against..."
B. "Make you pay a price..."
C. "Going to make you work hard to get two point..."
D. All the above.

Somone, apparently Tampa, is going to severely overpay for Malone.
Yet Tampa could quite possibly make a playoff run, while the Kings sit on their asses and suffer threw another out-of-contention-by-Christmas season because they didn't try to acquire anyone worth acquiring...

I guess Pittsburgh really thinks that they will be able to re-sign Hossa. Shero better pony up some big $$$ to make sure he keep Hossa or else they are going to have to get 2nd tier UFA's after losing Malone, Hossa and Roberts. Looks like the Pens may be down a few notches from what they were this year. Malone must be very disappointed to leave his hometown team under these circumstances.

It's going to be very interesting to keep an eye on Tampa this coming season.
Melrose is going to make that a hard team to play against, in spite of what so many think.
Nothing cracks me up more the seeing the phrase "Lightning Co-Owner Len Barrie."
And thinking the same guy owning Tampa was the same guy who fought Steve Rucchin off the face off in the last game at the forum.
Yea, serious. When I heard Len Barrie was part of the ownership group attempting to buy the Lighting I thought it was a different Len Barrie not the scrub who played for the Kings.

you hit the the f'n nail right on the head. Malone and an aging Roberts would be better than 90% of our roster currently. But the Kings will just ride it out with the likes of Armstrong and Guiliano because they hustle. Makes me want to puke. If Orpik cost too much then still get him. I wonder if Melrose was ever on DL's radar for the job? Then again, with the way Melrose wants his team to play, B-Mel would never have taken this job due to how soft the line up is and the fact the owner is a tight wad...

well coaching a team in the weakest division in the league is one way to get your feet wet. we'll see how the rest of free agency plays out for them... i don't know how tough Jokinen, Gratton, Darche and Lessard are and their defense doesn't exactly inspire fear.

Just like he made the Kings hard to play against after their Stanley Cup Finals season?
I hope Barry has gone to school a little while he was sitting in that analyst's chair or TB is screwed.
Does TB give anything up is this deal if neither one signs with them?
