For some unfathomable reason, Tampa only has THREE picks in the first 5 rounds this year. One first, one third and 1 fifth. If Tampa is rebuilding, they sure don't look like they're trying very hard. Stamkos replaces Richards and they were a 30th place team with Richards. I can't figure out how that will change with Stamkos in place if that is all they do. Their cupboard is bare.

Mike Smith, Jeff Halpern, and Jussi Jokinen came over in that deal. Are they superstars? No, but they help fill out their second and third lines as well as allow them to bring Karri Ramo along a lot slower.
Remember that they were also without Boyle for most of the season, and now have him locked up long term for less than Richards salary.
call me crazy but wht if tampa doesnt pick stamkos think about ive never seen lecaveiler play wing and stamkos has been a center for his whole life where do you put stamkos on the second line? tampa needs a defensemen hopefully they will skip stamkos just thinking positive
I don't see Dean packaging much in the way of picks to move up from 2-1. That kills the idea of organizational depth for us, and he knows better than us, we WILL get a quality player at #2.
that said, maybe cammy is some overwhelmingly interesting card here and a couple of picks, (2nd, 33rd) + cammy, + someone like Wayne Simmonds does the trick.
Do you really want to do that to this team though? I honestly don't, not even for Stamkos.
I'll take Doughty, trade cammy for something that immediately addresses a big need, and keep the picks for the continuous stockpiling.
we are where we are, lets deal with it and move on.

Ill take what you said and add that we stay at 2nd. then try and move Cammy and maybe a 2nd or 3rd and Dallas' 1st to move up to say 7-13 spot. One of these D guys are gonna slip to that spot and I have a feeling one of Peterangelo, Meyers, Shenn are going to still be there.
Doughty or Bogosian at 2nd
Shenn, Meyers at 7-13
I would be estatic with that outcome. I mean who needs more picks?
Toronto
Nashville
Vancouver
Those can all use more prospects as they have been trading picks and prospects away. Especailly Toronto.
Tampa is not rebuilding. They needed one key piece and they got it.
Based on what I saw in watching their last 15 games or so, they need a hell of a lot more that one key piece. I thought the Kings played awful defense at the beginning of the season until I saw the turnover machine that TB was in their own end the last part of the season.

They replaced Richards with Stamkos... they were 30th with Richards. All they "got" was at best, an even exchange, certainly in the first couple of seasons... most likely a downgrade (at least short term - we have no idea how Stamkos will work out in the NHL, but Richards certainly was an example of what Stamkos could be).
If they aren't rebuilding at #30 overall, there's a problem.
**** Stamkos. We don't need him. This organization needs a defensive core and with this pick it will be looking extremely good. It would take Cammy + second overall + a prospect/pick to get Stamkos... It ain't happening...
