About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. What ever happened to honor, respect, and dignity? Aren't those the qualities that we love most about hockey players? That they aren't the jerks we see in every other sport.
What ever happened to honor, respect, and dignity? Aren't those the qualities that we love most about hockey players? That they aren't the jerks we see in every other sport. They respect their teammates, coaches, fans, and opponents. This behavior has absolutely no place in hockey, and most of all in junior hockey, where attitude and character are being set in cement for the rest of a young man's life. Shame on the Roy family for bringing their debauchery to such a public stage, and even worse for having no remorse for their actions

7 gmaes is a joke. Both these guys should be out for at least a season. Then the league says there's no place for this. 7 games? You cannot show that much lack of respect for the game and the players and only get 7 games.
Idiotic.

Karma to whomever can finish that.
Fighting I have no issue with..
Pummeling a guy while his back is on the ice and trying to cover himself... WRONG!
Not only is there the potential for secondary injury(I.E. Fist to head, head to ice, ouch.) But even in the NHL fights stop when a guy hits the ice. Brawlers tap each other, assuming they aren't royally pissed, and skate to the box.
Roy=douchey doucherton!
A few of you kvetching about the length of the suspension have to take into consideration the timing of the altercation. This happened in Game 2 of the QMJHL Finals.
The 5 game suspension for Daddy Patrick took him off the bench for the remainder of the games in the series which = the remainder of the season.
The 7 game suspension for Jr. is basically the finals and the first two games of the season. As classless as the move was, I dont honestly see how being an ******* should get him banned for longer. It's not like the NHL has sent a good precendent for minor leagues to follow.

hmmm... i wonder how these suspensions will affect the remparts... i just finished watching and they suffered another drubbing, losing 7-1 tonight.
i guess it didn't matter this round. les remparts defeat chicoutimi 3-1 to move on to the next round and play gatineau. jonathan and daddy roy are still suspended, but little bro frédérick is representing along the forward lines. in good ole fun fashion, all the skaters on the ice got into a full on brawl with 3.5 seconds left on the clock before the game was finished... but the goalies stayed out of it.
You know... in case anybody needed another reason to root against les Roys.
i know!!! i know!!! i was perusing the roster for quebec though and saw ryan played for the remparts and was then traded to gatineau's les olympiques mid season. you may have already known, but ryan hasn't exactly been on my radar so i was surprised... i'll be rooting for gatineau this time around for sure and interested to see if quebec's aggression gets carried over into this next series.
you know i love patrick and his super skills of yore, but jonathan and frédérick can suck it!!!
Remember Sr Pat's tantrum with the Habs before his trade to CO? Seeing Jr "carefully," "thoughtfully,' almost "politely," remove Ryan's mask before beating him into the ice--any of this due to 'roids rage and not Roy's rage? Ya think there's anger issues in the Roy home?
Four things I wonder if Old Man Roy planned, waited for, and knew. An important game/perfect timing/tv cameras. An opponent his son couldn't lose to. Punishment making the crime worthwhile. And now a much fatter $$ future NHL signing bonus for his son.
Let's hypothetically reverse the outcome & change the names a bit. If McSorley's son spanked Roy Jr like that here on West Coast, and escaped with a light sentence, every crepe pan in Quebec would be banged. The province would demand an immediate split from Canada over not protecting an icon of its unique heritage. Right?! Instead we get two-faced American tv press coverage along with the league's similar punishment.
Was Ryan any less important than the guy Bertuzzi hit? Or McSorley & Brashear? Those guys paid a hefty price. So have others. But not les Roys.
Father & son have taken us full circle. Once hockey was known for its goons. Then we had enforcers & a great game. Now we're back to goons again. Only this time it's goalies as goons. And it runs in the family.
They both should've been kicked out of hockey for remaining playoffs & half of next season. Hold them to the royal standards they demand in their paychecks. If the league would've aggressively shown les Roys the door, we'd all know that hockey was being ruled fairly & equally.

Thank you. I've seen my share of hockey fights. Warrior vs warrior. Or enforcer teaching goon a lesson. Dave Schultz when he was with Philly. You think McSorley will ever be invited (as Schultz was) to an old-timers game during All-Star break? No. There is a time for everything. But never a time to intend to injure anybody. That's exactly what Jr Roy went looking to do with daddy's approval. Then flipping off the crowd? "Like father, like son" fits so well here.
Hockey has enough image problems w/o this.

Put film of this in the HOF. Maybe then Roy clan will understand what responsibility means.
