About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Wowzer. And yeah, a Huet-Kolzig tandem? WTF!
Why weren't we in on this? >.< It just keeps bugging me. A 2nd round pick? Are you kididng me? :P This would have been a good move imo for the Kings doing a Huet/Bernier season next year... They both can speak French :P

kolzig has been having an off year this year. hes up there in age and he is likely going to retire in the next couple of seasons. huet is a free agent after this season, so its clear that the habs had no intention of signing him and were planning on going with price next season. i guess they figured they would get something for him instead of letting him walk for nothing.
i am surprised, however, that they got so little back for him. the habs arent really losing much, so its hard to say that they lost this trade, but for sure the caps won in this case if you catch my meaning.
How the heck do we miss out on this!!!!!???? Huet would have been an awesome #1! DL missed out again. He just loves to stick with mediocrity, not good!

Ah, this makes a bit more sense. So WAS still has to try and re-sign Huet at the end of the season, so no need to give up more for a player that may walk in a few months. Price is the future in MON (well, at least until he gets eclipsed by the next young hotshot), so it isn't that surprising that the Habs traded away Huet. Still, going into the playoffs with a rookie goalie is pretty risky. But it worked for them before with Roy and more recently with Cam Ward in Carolina.
If Huet was signed for next season as well, there's no way he goes for less than a 1st rounder.

yes. he was going to be a ufa. those "awww we should have been on this" people need to read the article. he was traded b/c: 1) ufa 2) already had a chance at habs playoffs experience and i guess didn't perform as great (per pierre mcguire).
i'm just disappointed b/c i actually like the habs and i love huet... i see the reasoning behind montreal perhaps getting something better had he been signed through at least next year, but it still rings bizarre in my mind that he was only got for a 2nd rounder...
