They are saying Bryzgalov is on waivers. To lose an asset like that for nothing. Doesn't make any eense.
I guess everyone knows the Ducks are desperate to offload him and no one wants to give up what Burke is asking. So, the Ducks take a chance, put him on waivers. I doubt he'll clear though, so yes, they lose him for nothing. I assume the problem is that Burke is asking too much in return, scaring everyone away.
With a combination of this and Kunitz's extension, i'm starting to wonder if Burke has gone crazy.

All valid reasons for what Burke is up to, but still it does not make any sense to let a valuable asset walk for nothing.
What is the point of doing this now, why not wait until closer to the deadline when teams get desperate. What if for example, a team like Carolina is in the race and Ward goes down. They decide to go for the cup since they have a decent team in place. Bryzgalov would probably be at the top of their shopping list and Burke could at least get a 2nd rounder out of them .
Even the the Sabers got a second rounder out of Philly for Biron at the deadline.

The reason not to wait is that the sooner he gets his salary off the book, the more cap space he has to cover Niedermayer and/or Selanne.
As for Hiller, nhlscap.com list his cap hit as $3.2M Link...does he have some monster incentives that get him to that? His base salary is $850K.

Ducks fans are saying Hiller's cap hit is just as high. No idea if that's true or not. I don't know who the "smart" posters on the Ducks board are. Anyone know what their salaries are?

Even the Canucks got a second rounder out of LA for Cloutier during the offseason, coming off a season-ending injury, while he was still injured, after Vancouver acquired a franchise goalie, with Vancouver in cap hell, etc.
