The Rangers have locked up their franchise goaltender for the foreseeable future.
Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers have agreed upon a contract that will keep the 25-year-old netminder between the Garden's pipes well past his 30th birthday.
While the length and value of the deal - believed to be for six years at more than $6.5 million per - have been set, there is language in the contract that is still being hashed out. So the Rangers are not expected to make a formal announcement until tomorrow at the earliest.
Henrik's a GREAT goaltender. I would say one of the few that deserves a high payday. But... the cap will increase and once more bail out the Rangers.
Yea, the Rangers had to keep him. No choice but to pay him.
The cap is going to increase, but there will be some fallout. It'll be hard for the Rangers to bring back a valuable guy like Rosival. Luckily for them they have guys like Staal and in a few years Sanguinetti to replace them. If the Rangers can keep drafting well, they might be able to offset the blow of some of these veterans leaving.
Wouldn't surprise me if Jagr is traded this off-season!
Jagr will be a UFA unless he hits 84 points which triggers an extra contract year. It seems very unlikely that he'll hit that as he has 47 points in 56 games.
