Well, if you would take a minute and reference the ECHL Ontario Reign link, you would know that at the logo unveiling press conference it was confirmed by Luc Robitaille (his holiness himself) that the Reading Royals will still be the primary ECHL affiliate to the Los Angeles Kings. If you're looking for other pastures, sorry kid.. Epic Fail.

Now that you have your answer, you can either take lessons in effective negative posting from CBGB and Dr. Naysay or you can move right along. :

Thank you for pointing that out, Unruely, but I already read the Reign thread. In fact, that was the thread to which google linked that put me on this site in the first place. Aren't you glad?

With all due respect to Mr. Robitaille and his holiness, what else is he (the company man) going to say? Especially since the press conference was held within days of STH renewals being sent to Royals fans. It's a business decision pure and simple. They may not have a clue where Reading PA is, but they don't want to piss off the 6th largest fanbase in the league. At least until they see how many asses they put in the seats in Ontario.

Besides, Robitaille also made the statement that the Reign would have guys you could see playing in Ontario one night and for the Kings the next. They must really be beefing up the organization if the players on their secondary affiliate are going to be that good.

Maybe next season Danny Taylor can fly back and forth between coasts every day all season long to be goalie for BOTH of the Kings ECHL affiliates.

Kid? Haha, don't I wish! Epic fail? Hardly. Thanks for the wishes, but I'll move along when I'm ready.

Well, cupcake... glad to see you're back.

Believe what you will, but I can tell you first hand that the Royals are in no danger of losing their importance or their affiliation. Not just by Luc's word, but from what I have seen from this market. I worked for the minor league affiliate for a POPULAR SoCal Sports team for the better part of 2007 and I can tell you that it was a DAILY struggle to get people in the seats. The only sell outs were the 'Thirsty Thursday' promotions where the college kids came out to get drunk and hook up for $1 beers through the seventh inning. If local Angels fans arent going to come out for a $7 seat to watch their future kids play then I find it incredibly hard to believe that Kings fans will do the same for more expensive for very long. There is just too much competition for the entertainment dollar in SoCal unless the Reign put on a near NHL-like show. (by the way, I fully intend on attending the Ice-girl tryouts... just for kicks.)

(disclaimer: I know the Kings have a stupidly rabid fanbase... but let's be realistic for a moment.)

Once the novelty wears off the Reign will be like the ECHL Kings... small rabidly informed fanbase but unless CBB snags the Thirsty Thursday promo or sends out some equally good hook then the shine isnt gonna last long. Everyone knows that the permament resident could have been the Harlem Globetrotters for all AEG cared, as long as there was SOMETHING going on in between concerts.

As for the comment about "seeing guys play Friday in LA and Saturday in Ontario"... He said it... I wrote it, but unless he's expecting the continuation of goalie issues I dont really believe it. As with all affiliate teams, the possibility is there ~ doesn't make it likely.

Right now the Kings have quite a stocked minor leaguer system and as of right now there are something like 15 picks for the upcoming draft. Kids coming out of college... other ECHLers who want to sign 40 minutes from the beach... there are all kinds of possibilities for the Reign. However, I dont think any of the possibilities will be taking away talent or importance from the Royals. Just think of the Reign as the Royals bastard little brother. Kinda in the way sometomes but not such a bad kid if you kick him in the ass a little to keep in line.
