I also remember sitting in the 1st row on the 2nd level behind the goalie for one of those first games and it being quiet to the point where my brother and I were yelling at the players and they not only heard us but responded. An opposing teams player bumped the goalie a little bit and yelled "Hey Ladouceur dont let that guy touch your goalie" only to have Ladoucer look directly at me and then make a bee line toward the player who bumped the goalie." true story
Dude that is awesome. I remember in the 90's when the Angels were not so good I would sit in the left field bleachers and heckle the opponents left fielder. It was always a blast when they took notice. The best nights I had were bagging on Rich Amaral, Albert Belle and Jose Canseco.
Amaral flipped me off.
Belle let me know he makes more money than me.
Canseco was awesome. He laughed and even did a muscle pose.
The Angels bullpen would laugh their asses off. I miss those days.
i've gone to a decent amount of ducks games since over the past few seasons. i've had my fair share of "dumb fans", but it's kinda the stuff you hear at a lot of places. there's always people who go with friends or got free tickets etc(as any areana actually).
but i do think the major difference is that "orange county attitude".... i'm not saying that LA doesn't have that, but i feel there's just less at staples and more in hollywood.
last season when we played the ducks in march i had a group of 20 waaay at the top just under the press box. as we got to our seats i saw anze up there as he was hurt and out of the lineup. we chatted for a few minutes and some guy in front of us said, "typical LA, interested in press rather than the game and trying to get on camera" and "who is that guy anyway, an actor". umm, it was like 20 minutes before the puck dropped and it was a brief hello to kopitar.
some ducks fans to their left actually told them who he was and called them out. these two were really nice and quite hardcore. i just held my breath, it was cool to see a ducks fan notice something like that too -we chatted for a bit. i know there are some of these people at the HC, but not as many as the snobby kind.
*also, i'm in orange county too so when i refer to the attitude it's also the demeanor outside the arena.
oh and as close as i've lived to the stadium, i've still never been to an angel game. ah well. go dodgers!
you know what i like about the honda center?
cheaper beer prices.
last night:
-i didn't pay attention to the crowd's hockey knowledge... other than the fact that the guys behind me had ducks jerseys on but didn't know the names of their players... referring to them as #40, #14, etc.
whatevs, didn't bug me.
-those duck calls aren't nearly as annoyingly prolific as before... i only heard it once near the end of the game.
-there's a lot of kids in attendance.
-i feel bad for the older couple who got the front of their car smashed in the parking lot.
-nice fight between parros and hordichuk.
oh and i actually did pay attention to the game... my friend isn't much of a hockey fan so she chatted with me the whole time and i wasn't wearing my kings jersey (since i think wearing the colors of a team that's not in the house is lame) so i may have been perceived as a non hockey fan, but i don't care.
nashville got their asses handed to them in the 2nd. i hope they don't come back pissed against us tonight.

Not to make this case anymore useless or redundant than it already is, BUT, i have been to maybe 7 ducks games this season(parents have season tix, so i oblige and my mom buys me food) Anyways, in all of these games, i have yet to meet one really knowledgeable Duck fan. I mean, youd think even a casual fan could spot an offsides, but apparently these "die hard" ducks fans cannot. I'm sorry OP but your fans are pretty much as close to pond scum with their intelligence. And another example- I was at a game about three weeks after they waived bryz, and my friend was wearing his jersey, and someone said "I think i saw him in another teams jersey, does he still play here?" I mean, for the love, COME ON
Where did you sit? The strongest (and longest) fans are between the bluelines which have been pretty much sold out since the 2003-2004 season... and really, who cares if the Ducks have a ton of bandwagon fans... it's to be expected - they're a winning franchise. They just won the Cup. They've been to the WCF 3 out of the last 4 seasons. They've done more in 15 years than the Kings have in 40! Maybe they're idiots, but to insult them while the Kings flounder at the very bottom of the league makes Kings fans sound like sore losers. Man up.
Ill never forget the moment in Time when I decided I could never be a Ducks fan. There was a 10 year old fan in front of us with a little ducks jersey, full of emotion and energy having a great time. He takes out a jar of bubbles and blows some celebratory bubbles in the air after a goal only to have the women in front of him turnaround and scornfully say "Can you stop that-your bubbles are getting into my espresso and lemon creme torte." The rest of the game the kid was a lifeless shell.
South county Duck fan at their finest.......
Sorry OP couldn't resist.......and I have seen plenty when I used to work the games...

lol i remeber going to an angels game back in the day and some dude was heckling ricky henderson allllllll night and after the 7th or 8th inning henderson looks over as hes running off the field and grabs his croatch and says "suck my dick" lol everyone was laughing, good times!
My cousin has been out visiting from Canada this week to see his beloved leafs play, so we took him to both the honda center and staples. Driving home last night he commented on how much better staples was. The crowd was more into hockey and not into cheering every time parros stepped on the ice. He described it best as staples had a good hockey energy and the honda center felt like just another sporting event.
That being said I know quite a few ducks fans that have a good hockey IQ. It just seems they are in the minority. Coincidently, half of those ducks fans that have a good hockey IQ are former Kings fans that jumped ship back in the mid 90's.
