Dallas is in first place and Turco is a 35 - 40 win goalie with consistently good GAA and SV%. Last season he finally shook the tag as a weak playoff performer with three shutouts against Vancouver.
Has Mike Smith really been so convincing in his 33 NHL games that they can just jettison one of the league leading goalies mid season?
Ever since this rumor came out I've thought it could happen. TB definitely needs a proven netminder to go deep in the playoffs, and Dallas, despite having the 5th best Goals For in the league, can use all the offensive firepower they can get. I think Mike Smith can really carry the starting load in Dallas. He reminds of a younger Turco with size and puck handling skills. After seeing him play a few games a while ago I always thought he will be a future #1.
they both have no trade clauses, or atleast st.louis does.

The trouble with Tampa is that St louis and Lecavalier have become a couple(In the hockey sense) they enjoy playing together and their numbers prove it. If Tampa are trading anyone it is Boyle and they wont get much for him as he is a FA next year.

right....they're really shedding salary when they're adding 500K. i wouldn't trade st.louis and neither will the lightnings, even if it's for turco.
I think that would actually be a great deal for both sides.
It may turn out well, and it definitely may not.
Turco has benefited from playing behind a very defensive system in Dallas. I don't know if he'll be able to keep that up behind Tampa's game.
St. Louis is still very small. Talented, but that may be a non-factor being in the extremely large sized Pacific division.
