carolinas 3rd in the east (by default of leading their division) i would think they would now be more heavily active before the trade deadline to add to the team..

and they really don't have much they CAN sell other than Hedican and or Wesley. Samsonov would have to clear waivers again before they can trade him and Grahame ain't likely to find any interest... the rest of their UFA/RFA pool is rather thin outside of Ladd and Gleason, and it would be a big mistake to move either of them at this point.
the only team from that sorry division that is going to make the playoffs is the team who happens to end the regular season in first place, and that team will likely finish with less points than the 8th seed.
i doubt anyone gives them an over the hump center for their 1st round pick.

Ray Whitney might be valuable to some teams. Too bad they extended him during the off-season.
That might be unattractive to some teams, but you never know, GMs get desperate. Whitney is still productive and I'm guessing he might not fit in with Carolina's long term plans with the way their season went. I would at the very least shop him around.
They are first in their division granted not by much but they are in a division that the only team to make the playoffs is most likely to be the division winner. They won the Stanley Cup 2 years ago and missed the playoffs last year. Just because they lost one of their better players doesn't mean they should just give up. They shouldn't sell the farm either.
