wow... i guess Cammalleri does get $6 million next year.
Why? Aren't they pretty much the same player?
Michael Ryder (Career)
25.77 Goals/82 games
28.20 Assists/82 games
Mike Cammalleri (Career)
26.94 Goals/82 games
32.22 Assists/82 games
Five points per 82 games is worth another $2.0 million a year?

I have shaken my head quite a few times today with some of these deals, but I just can't figure out how this guy got 4 years with that amount of money.

1. He got three years.
2. If you think he's a 25-30 goal scorer, then it's not a bad deal. And let's remember that Ryder has played for Claude Julien in Juniors, the AHL, and the NHL, and he's never had a bad year playing for him.

Dude, have you ever tried being objective here, as far as the Bruins go?
Dude, have you ever tried being objective here, as far as the Bruins go?
What's the point in that?
Besides, I thought I was being objective. The Bruins didn't sign him at $4 million/year because they think he's going to score 14 goals, get relegated to the 4th line, and be an occassional healthy scratch. They think he's going to bounce back to 30-goal form. If he does, then it's a pretty good deal considering what 30-goal scorers get on the open market these days.
Let's put it this way - if Ryder was coming off his 3rd straight 30-goal season, don't you think he would have gotten at least $4 million? Ryan Malone's never scored 30 and he got $4.5 million. Corey Perry's never scored 30 goals, and he got $5+ million. Hell, Niklas Hagman's only scored more than 20 goals once in his life, and he just got $3 million.
It's the going rate for goal-scorers these days. If Ryder really is a 15-goal guy, then this blows up in Boston's face. But if he's a 25-35 goal guy playing a regular shift with Marc Savard, then it's good signing for the Bruins.

You are correct, 3 years. I must have been confused since my idiotic team gave Michal Handzus a 4 year deal after blowing out his knee.
Still, this guy is coming off of a terrible season, why give him a 3 year deal? I have a hard time believing there were a lot of teams offering him that kind of term especially for a guy trying to resurrect his career.
I've got nothing against Ryder or the Bruins, so I hope it works out for your team.

Fair enough.
What's the word on Patrice? Is he done, or is there hope he'll be back at least in some shape or form?

There was talk in Boston that Bergeron would have played in the 2nd round of the playoffs had the Bruins advanced... so the guess here is that he'll be ready for the start of the year.
