There's one big difference between the Price pick and the Hickey pick.

Price was a highly regarded prospect, whose pick was a surprise because of Montreal's goaltending depth.

While Hickey was an off the board pick based on rankings and such.

Two very different situations I think.

Looking back at the Hickey pick though, and the two guys who most people would have taken at that spot (Alzner or Voracek), can anyone really say right now that what the Kings did was a mistake??

All three of those guys have come along real well for the teams that drafted them and they will each play a part for those teams if they continue their development. So really, based on everything that we know about these players, who can honestly say that the Kings made a mistake by taking Hickey??

You can't say any of those guys are a mistake for probably another 3 years minimum.

If Hickey ends up being a bust I would be critical of Lombardi not for WHEN he took Hickey in the draft but that he took him at all....by that time the issue of when in the draft Lombardi took him will be irrelevant.
