But if all of that sounds a bit out of whack, consider this. Boyle is also not following the traditional rookie plot-line of laying low, getting in his touches, and playing safe minutes. Instead, the kid is shooting and scoring, putting up numbers that are making the people who drafted him five years ago look like geniuses. (You know who they are. Most of them work in Dallas now.)
However, there is no way he is 222. He looks like he outweighs Ivanans, who is listed at 263.
I've seen Boyle listed at 222 (when he was drafted), 240 and 255.
Can anyone who is going to Tip-An-Ex-King, please ask Brian what his current playing weight is?
.
“Looking at our depth in the organization, we don’t have a lot of top-flight young defenseman coming up. We saw this kid that was 6’7” and knew that he had played on defense on the penalty kill at Boston College for most of his career. Plus, we knew it would teach him about playing defensively. That’s the process with most young players—they have to learn how to play without the puck; you have to learn to compete. We thought that he could play defense, though it turns out that his foot speed probably wasn’t good enough, and so Christmas or early December they made the switch back to center. He had played center on most of the power plays down there [Manchester] and so we knew he was a good offensive player with a good shot.”
But anyone who has read/remembered/saved my reports will realize that's EXACTLY what I've said about Boyle, and why he shouldn't play defense. In fact, word for word, I've said his skating speed is just as good as others... it's his foot speed that's lacking.
Thanks for the article though; it's a great read.

Agreed, great read!
Boyle gave a radio interview that was posted here recently, and when they asked him about his size, and said he was 6'6", 222, Boyle laughed and said that those stats were from when he started college. Boyle said that he's 6'7" and 240lbs.

I remember you saying that King'sPawn!
Not to toot my own horn...
I commented at the time that they were not moving Boyle to Defense permanently, it was to help him understand how important it is for a centerman to support his defense. The BEST way to illustrate that was to put him in a defensive role.

Boyle said recently that the 6'6 222 is from when he was 18. He said he is 6'7 240 now.
