Blake had a NO trade clause. If he was only waiving it for Colorado, and whatever Colorado offered wasn't worth it, then blast DL for giving him the no trade clause; not for being unable to trade a guy who exercised a clause in his contract. If the Kings take him back at more than $2 million, or for more than one year, or give him another no trade clause, that would upset me more by a lot.
...and I completely understand that. My point is this: If DL wasn't going to resign him (at any price), I'm sure he didn't decide this in the past week. It's likely he felt this before the trade deadline. A guy as complex and as detailed as DL doesn't make decisions quickly. If he didn't trade him because the value wasn't "enough", why would he let him walk for even less than that value? A 7th round pick is worth more than nothing at all.
I really doubt that DLombardi wants RBlake back for 2008-09. I think he wanted to trade him to get some more draft picks. The Kings need to get a younger D-man( at least 10 years younger than Blake) to fill the roster spot soon to be vacated. And he needs to be a RD I think. ZChara sure would have been a nice catch...
And I really doubt you have any idea you know what you're talking about.....ever.
Yes, Lombardi should not have given him the NTC and it sucks that Blake publicly declared that Colorado was the only place he would go effectively killing any deal possible since there is no way the Avs would offer fair value knowing they are the only takers and his contract would be up at the end of the year; but regardless, none of this matters now and Blake will be resigned. It is 100%. He won't be playing top pairing anymore and certainly won't get his $6 million contract but he will be resigned no matter what so there really shouldn't be any question to why Lombardi did not get value for him before the deadline because he is not going to be playing for anyone else come training camp other than the Kings.
Most likely scenario is the Kings will re-sign Blake and will overpay. Something around $4M for one season. I along with many others will hate the move and the Kings will be led again by a captain that won't make a difference.
I hope Blake isn't back because it would mean that we have found younger, tougher, and cheaper replacements for his role and they can make one of the kids the captain and get on with the rebuild.
Adam Foote values himself at $4 million, and you expect Blake to sign for half that?
I didn't say Blake would take it; rather, this is my opinion on what he is worth to this team. Most of me thinks he wouldn't take it and that suits me fine.
When I read the title of this thread I was certain it was going to be a highlight video of all the hits Rob Blake dished out throughout his career(excluding his latest stint with L.A.).
He'll rsign that's not the question, he won't want to uproot his family again now that he is getting older. But in the new contract it should read that he needs to give back the "C" that was on his chest all season long.
