At last night's game, the curse of the anthem singer was realized when they had some supposedly Tony-nominated chick currently starring in "The Color Purple" sing "The Star-Spangled Banner." I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned already. She messed up the lyrics (always bad luck for the home team), and was just God awful. She started the song as low as she could, obviously knowing she couldn't hit the high notes, and yet she still strained to hit "free" when the time came. Then she added on the most bizarre runs at random places.
I know the Kings were terrible last night and I'm just looking for someone to blame, but damn, this chick SUCKED!
What game was it last year that had some chorus-type group from some inner city-type place that had never heard of hockey come in and absolutely mangle Oh Canada? complete with wrong words, wrong melody, etc.? Honestly, most embarrassing thing I've ever seen not involving blood or nudity.

Wasn't that at one of the SC Final games at the Pond?
But yeah last night's anthem was ing horrible. I felt bad for the singer (she had to know how bad it was), but I'm grateful that she saved me whatever it costs to see The Color Purple...
Absolutely horrible. In fact I text my brother the exact same thing as the title of this thread. I was almost afraid. I've never heard the anthem in monotone before.
Cue the "I don't know why they sing national anthems at sporting events" and "Our national anthem is a horrible one anyway" posts.
I get that it's cheesy, and probably a bit much, but I get pissed when ANY national anthem gets butchered. I get REALLY irritated when people in the stands keep talking, moving around, going to get a drink or some food... stand the **** still and shut the **** up for a couple of minutes you ass.
