Who Would You Give Up To Get Phaneuf?

Calgary can't afford to keep everyone and Phaneuf is looking for serious $$$$$ as a RFA.

What can the Kings possibly give up (other than JMFJ) to get this guy?

Frolov is signed for a few more seasons at a reasonable price, so lets start there.

But Frolov isn't going to be enough.

We don't really have any decent D prospects in the system, so Calgary will probably want the #1 pick. Not Dallas' pick.

Considering that DL loves to build from the back out, is Frolov and OUR #1 too much to pay for a guy who is going to seek a huge contract?

Phaneuf and JMFJ is a pretty damn formidable #1 line.

They are going to trade Tanguay. So, there won't be a problem signing Phaneuf.

Any offer sheets for DP will be matched.

I would give up Cammy and our top pick for Phaneuf and later round pick. In the case of Frolov, I would just rather we draft Doughty.

Flames will not trade Phaneuf anyway, but its nice to dream

I would say Fro, Dallas 1st round pick, Harrold, and another prospect.

Calgary wont let him go without getting a huge return back. And I dont see us giving up a top 5 pick (whcih we could use for either another good D or stamkos- if we get that lucky) I rather toss a couple prospects at them instead.

Let's see Stamkos with the Kings #1 pick(maybe) or Frolov and #1 pick for Phanuef?. If I was DL I would do that trade and then see if you can trade with whoever ends up second behind the Kings to get thier pick. Calgary would most likely want more than Frolov and the Kings #1 pick though. With Phanuef and Johnson, it would give the Kings a formidable 1-2 punch on defense for many years.

With Phanuef you would already have that bonifide #1 pick and already NHL defenseman. Doughty might end up being a a top defenseman in a few years,but you already know what you're getting with Phanuef.

Sorry but that trade would make little sense for the kings at least for the future. All cards point to Cammy leaving via UFA after next season or getting traded some time between now and then. I don't think this team can afford to lose 2 30+ goal scorers over the course of the next 18 months without getting another 30+ goal guy back somewhere.

The only think that would make sense is in this Phaneuf wet dream would be if we trade Fro and whatever. Sign Hossa as a UFA, then we can still afford to lose Cammy for more D, a goalie, top prospects or something.

Fact is if you trade Fro, and lose Cammy next year, that's too many holes to plug just to get Phaneuf, and there is no garuntee that we can get a 30+ goal guy to sign here via UFA, and don't give me this crap about Moulsson and Purcell being NHL ready, yes they are ready, but they aren't going to step up and score 30+, atleast not for a few seasons.

There is no way in hell we get Phaneuf. If you want a more feasible dream, think Regehr instead.
