About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Who's got the '09 1sts that we want DL to poach or exchange some of this year's surplus picks for?

Who's got the '09 1sts that we want DL to poach or exchange some of this year's surplus picks for?
Assuming we make enough moves to pull this team out of the gutter and at least into the black hole or playoff contention, it's unlikely the Kings will be a lottery team again next year. However...can we predict who's going to suck and engineer trades that net us those teams' firsts, and get into the Tavares race?
This would be a lot more fun than sucking ourselves.
I'd rather trade some of the picks for an NHL ready dman who can step in now. That's our most pressing need, a young stay at home dman to pair with one of our offensive dmen for a balanced pairing.
I hereby guarantee we miss the playoffs next year. There are AT LEAST 8 other teams in the West who will be superior to any possible combination of lineups we could patch together.
And I am hopeful Cloutier will deliver Tavares to us.
hmm..
St.Louis (kariya has been absolutely invisible maybe that carries next year)
Phoenix(im betting on bryzgalov not being able to play up to what they gave him)
Toronto
Florida
tampa or edmonton
if we dont bolster our d corps, were done before the season begins.
OK, assuming that you think that LA will be in the bottom 5 again, which of the other bottom 4 teams will be most deluded about their potential playoff hopes and, as such, would be most likely to part with an 09 1st?

There is too much of a gamble to part with an '09 1st unless you are perennial playoff team (Detroit, NJ, and so on). Then you look at those teams and see that they still never really part with 1st round picks.
If you are a GM of let's say a mid round team like Chicago or Nashville and you trade your 1st with the hopes of playoffs in 09, then you get an injury here and a slumping goalie there and you end up 26th. Then your slot wins the lottery.
Do you think that GM would ever have a job where he was not known as the guy who traded Tavares?
I have not been given any evidence that suggests the kings will be improving next year. Question marks on defense and in goal...for the umpteenth time in franchise history. We aint going no where but down.
