Yeah, nothing but a much-needed defensive presence on an awful defensive team. A plus player in 4 out of 5 seasons here, including +13 last year (on a team that gave up 56 more goals than they scored), and a +4 this year (team gave up 35 more goals than scored).
Say what you will, he still brings a lot to the table on the ice, no matter the ways people might try to spin it.
It was not mentioned, but don't count out his off-ice presence. A lot of the kids look up to him as a role model and he is one of the most popular guys on the team. He never should have been stripped of his 'A' this season.
C'mon, give him some credit!
There is no need to bring sensibility to this argument. Armstrong is the Kings most underrated player who gets overrated top line time.

Proof-positive that the +/- is a useless stat.
If he is such a much needed defensive presence, why don't you ever see him on the penalty kill?
Maybe because he is too damn slow, can't hit, and turns the puck over too often?
His lack of speed leads to his always being near-tops on the team for penalties taken by forwards.
Both wingers, equal ice time, equal Power Play points, yet Fro manages a +1 while the Squid is at a slippery -16. I'm not trying to be an *******, rather, I'd really like an explanation for this.
I didn't add Brown or Kopitar to the mix because they arguable draw either the opposing team's top line or the opposing team's shut-down line on a nightly basis.
Also, if you look at Armstrong's points, he only earned 22.86% of them on the PP, while Fro earned 26.87% of his, and the Squid earned 40.43% of his.
said it before, but i'd love to see the boyle-moulson-purcell trio called up as an intact line rather than as a mix'n'match with top-6 forward holes. you folks want to feel better about army at C2, having a wildly young and dangerous third line is the answer.

exactly, we can even have Zus and army switching between 2/4 depending who wants to play that night. Talk about an energy line, put three rookies together and let them go. They might get some goals scored against them but, until we get a real defense and a goalie, it wont matter.

Cammy spent a lot of time on the top line before he got hurt and O'Sullivan won that job. That'll tank anyone's +/-.

be an *******; army haters deserve it more than anyone, because their reasons for disliking him are usually so ****ing stupid its unreal.
the guy has been forced into a role he is not equipped to play and has probably overachieved every season. not to mention EVERYONE loves army. You know why he didnt get the C this year? This is straight from the lockerroom. "he doesnt need that kind of accolade. Everyone knows hes a leader with or without a letter"
How quickly this turned into a bash Army thread... If you look at his numbers, he's a great 3rd line guy.... Don't hate him for where the coach makes him play. He's put up consistent numbers for a few seasons now. We know what's we're getting from him, unlike a few other players who show up whenever....

Yup, and the matchup problems for opponents having to deal with three lines that could generate some sustained offensive pressure would be substantial.
