God damn it, Rich was fantastic, Kredell... not so much. Congrats to Rich, but I really, really miss him on the blog.

Rich's job covering the Kings was truly something special. He was knowledgeable, optimistic, asked the hard questions, and was always pushing the envelope in his coverage.
I am definitely thankful for Matt's effort (any news is better than no news!), but Rich left some pretty big shoes to fill. I do appreciate the fact that Matt seems to have dropped the negativity down a bit (he must have read that other thread), but there still seems to be something a little soul-less about his reporting. Does anybody else get that vibe?

Rich not only reported Kings happenings he was also a fan. Matt just seems to be a reporter, not so much a fan, and it shows in his writing.

i thought this was all pretty much covered when Rich brought Matt in... weren't there allusions made to the possibility of Rich moving on and Matt taking over? and didn't they BOTH stress how Matt was fairly new to the team AND the game and would be learning a heavy load worth on the fly?
some of you guys seriously need to quit making with the sherm and cut him some major slack. if YOU think you got the juice, don't only encourage him, but point him in a few directions.... be constructive.
i've forgotten more about hockey than some of you knucklef***s even think you know... and you (collectively) have the balls to bust on this cat?

I know you can't honestly say that Kredell is on the same level as Rich for reporting. I'll cut him a little slack, but not a lot. He isn't Jack Johnson, he's a god damn reporter, he needs to step up his game and learn some more from Rich before completely taking over. I won't argue that some of you older bastards know more about hockey than me, but I've been going to games, watching games, and playing the game pretty much my entire life, I know a lot.

not the point... SOMEONE is writing about the Kings, and he gots the access.
All I want is someone to write down what Lombardi says, and to maybe ask some decent questions. I really don't care who. Blogging in general is nothing close to journalism. Heck, most sports "journalism" isn't either. So my expectations are low.
As for cutting Kredell some slack, that's fine, though my preference for Rich was more an issue of style than content. If Kredell can get access to and transcribe insider comments, too, that's more than adequate.
