They lost again tonight.
I recall that Morris mentioned that the team would be looking to add a more veteran presence to the team. I think it'd benefit all the youngsters in Manchester if they gained playoff experience.
Other NHL teams made depth trades today, depth that improved their AHL clubs.
I have supported Lombardi. Today, though, I'm fighting to understand what happened w/ the Kings' inactivity. But I'm absolutely certain that I don't want the Monarchs to go through a similar situation. But at this point, I have to wonder, what the hell DL is doing?
Whatever happened to building the culture of winning vs. that of losing?
Thanks. Didn't know that.
However, the Monarchs are loaded up with rookies this year. They truly need some more experienced players to help them out.
I guess we'll see in a couple days.
But it's still something that is upsetting that it has yet to be addressed.
Maybe but i would guess they are only allowed to trade players which are on AHL-contracts only. Not NHLers playing in the minors or prospects since the NHL tradeline has already passed. That drastically thins the pool for real help.
I'm sorry, but **** Manchester. We need to see what the kids in the system can do for us now. Making the AHL playoffs would be icing on the cake, but in reality, the Monarchs are a feeder club for the Kings. The Monarchs should bolster the Kings, not the other way around.
With all the draft picks we have, we'll be bolstering the minor league club soon enough. But I have a hard time justifying keeping talented guys down in the minors when so many have proven themselves at the big league level. (Except for Tukonen. Of course, he only played in one game.)
As has been pointed out in many threads ad nauseum, Lombardi couldn't get what he wanted. I'd rather see him pull a rabbit out of his hat on Draft Day, rather than on Trade Deadline day. More of a chance to pull one over on other GMs.
I'd rather have our players get their chops wet playing against big league talent, rather than toiling around in minors. How else can we see what they can do? You can only be a prospect for so long. Sooner or later, you have to prove yourself. And these kids have an opportunity of a lifetime. Make a good enough impression, and their name could be permanently stitched to their jerseys, rather than attached with Velcro.

If the next 20 games meant a damn thing for the Kings, I'd agree with you. But lets face it, we got all next year for the kids to show us what they can do, it isn't like this team is going to be making the playoffs next year either. So IMO I'd say it's more important for them to play in meaningful games and hopefully the playoffs to see which players are the ones who rise to the occasion in pressure situations.

Come up, play relatively well. Look like rookies at some points, look experienced at others. Score a few points in a few meaningless games on a team that should be losing anyway.
There. Hope I didn't spoil anything. Guess we can send them back down now.

If the next 20 games meant something to the Kings, you'd be crazy to bring up all these kids to show what they can do. If these games meant something, I want proven players on the ice.
I'm sorry, Salty, but I'm going to have to disagree with you here. This is EXACTLY the time to shuttle the kids up and play them. You may have already given up on next season, but I haven't. If we can give these kids a taste of what they need to do in the bigs, there is a GREAT chance the Kings could make the playoffs next season.
Look at O'Sullivan. There was talk that maybe he should spend more time in the minors at the beginning of this season. Now, he's one of the Kings' breakout players. Now, think about a line of O'Sullivans. Purcell, Boyle and Moulson, all growing by leaps and bounds next season in the bigs would give L.A. THREE scoring lines. How is that a bad thing?
Playing in the AHL playoffs may provide something, but I can guarantee you the players get more out of playing in the bigs. That's the goal for the players, remember. Making the NHL, not hoisting the Calder Cup.
