About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Was watching him on the T.V the other night Haven't seen much of him but darn he looks good. As a senior isn't really his only option
Was watching him on the T.V the other night Haven't seen much of him but darn he looks good. As a senior isn't really his only option to go to the AHL? He doesn't get much press, but it seems he could possibly be a #1 in the near future. Of course more choices are better then none at goalie, but I am thinking either Bernier or Zats will have to get out of the organization.
well just because a goalie is ready to challenge in the NHL doesn't always mean he's going to be a starter from the beginning. The proper way to develop a goalie is to have him as a backup then give him more work as time goes by.

There's also the ECHL... the Kings have two affiliates... the Royals and the Reign. Spread throughout the organization the Kings have 8 (potentially 12) roster spots for goalies.
Even if every goalie they had in the system went pro or was retained... they still have enough spots
LaBarbera
Cloutier
Ersberg
Bernier
Quick
Taylor
Rowat
Zatkoff
Ahh thanks, Berry Melrose who was anouncing the game made it sound like he was going to jump ship last year for a pro career, but decided to come back one more year to try to make it the frozen four for his team mates. I just figured he wanted to come back for his senior year. Nonetheless it sounded like this may be his last year at college.

The same Melrose who said Boyle skated like Bobby Orr and would be a great NHL Dman this season?

You should have linked that goalie thread you started not so long ago. Lots of talk about Zatkoff's options there.
NO offense to PUG, our resident ECHL expert but is the ECHL really the right place to develop a young goaltender? Is the level of offense anywhere near the AHL let alone far from NHL standards.

I'd submit that getting him into the E accomplishes two goals.
#1 - gets him used to pro life. the schedule, the travel, the per diem, and of course, the cougars.
