It's rebuild time in Vancouver IMO. Gillis didn't seem too fond of the players he has right now. He didn't even sound like he wanted to keep the Sedins. I don't think they're giving up their pick, likewise Bourdon. That team has never drafted well and they need to start. I can't imagine the owner firing Nonis just so he could hire someone else to do the same thing by patching things. This one's going to be long term, hence the five year contract. In fact, if they rebuild I wouldn't be surprised to see Luongo asking to be traded again.
The 2nd overall pick, Cammalleri, Bernier and any defensman other than Johnson for Luongo and Mitchell.
Never happen but why not dream?
I could just see that, Cammy puts up 80 points, Bernier has a Carey Price type of year ends up neck and neck with Filatov for the Calder. While back at the staples Luongo's save pct stays the same but his GAA goes up to his Florida days because he is facing a extra 250 shots per season, Vancouver make the playoffs we dont and in a year from now we are sat here bitching about how we missed out on Tavares.
Filatov or a starting D-man, Cammalleri and a 19 year old possible future franchise goaltender????
FTFY. 19-year old goalie playing for a youth team <<<<<<<<< current franchise goalie (and by franchise, I mean "NHL" franchise)
However, I wouldn't pull the trigger, because:
1. I can't negotiate an extension at the moment.
2. The contract ends in two seasons and the team will not be a SC contender for next two seasons.
3. It's kinda... lot and it breaks up our rebuilding process. It's too early.
Reading a bit more about Gillis, he seems to be a gutsy guy who isn't afraid to play chicken. He did it with Holik and the Devils, he did it with Zhamnov and the Hawks.
He's got an interesting problem. 3 older defensemen (Salo/Ohlund/Mitchell) who are all making ~$4M per season and have a NTC. Those contracts, as well as the Sedins, are going to expire in the next couple of seasons. I bet that he plays hardball with them in an attempt to get them to waived their NTCs.
I still want to see Cammy in a Kings sweater, but, I'm curious as to what he'd value MC at now. I mean if he wants to work a sign-and-trade and pay the kid his 6 mil/year, i'd be happy to take Sami Salo's deal off of his hands.
no statute of limitations? lol i wonder if he gave them a heads up a few weeks before to find a different agent or just called the other day and was like i'm gone, peace.
