You said it, brother!
from all accounts i have heard him characterized as a franchise d-man, a label which really havent heard associated with Bogo.
If doughty can learn to play a positionally solid game(defensively), like jack played this year I dont mind his lack of physicallity. I would rather draft the BPA and address our other needs through free agency or trade.
I think more and more, we're going to have to get used to these mobile defensemen. It looks like dean has an affinity for mobile defensemen who can play a sound defensive and transitional game (jack, hickey, soon to be doughty).
However, I wouldn't be too disappointed if we swooped up bogo and got a phaneuf type guy, I just think (from what i've heard and seen) that doughty has more talent, and athleticism than bogo.

You don't mind him getting bumped and taken out of the play every other shift? Not only does he not take the body very well, let alone make open ice hits, but he is easily knocked off of the puck along the boards. This is not the kind of player I see DL picking up at #2. I have seen him in a few games and he really did not look that good. Unless I watched the games were he had the flu or something, I don't see us taking Doughty at #2 when there is Filatov, Bogosian and Pietrangelo available.
I think Doughty was clearly the #2 ranked player in the first part of the year, and after the WJC's, but his play the rest of the year and in the playoffs was not good enough to keep him there. IMO Again based on watching a handful of Storm games at best, so maybe I've only seen his off nights.

All of the Filatov fans out there listen up, "It ain't happening." There is no way DL takes a Russian, who may or may not transfer over, especially when there is 4-5 top seeded d-men. Sorry. Never. Get over it now.

agreed. although, from what ive heard filatov is eager to come to the nhl, and has made that quite clear.
the only way we take a forward with our first pick is if tampa goes nuts and drafts filatov or a dman. which also aint gonna happen.

i havent watched many games. i've really only watched the highlighted clips which showcase everyone's best plays etc. However, I do not expect doughty to step into the lineup right away either.
from what i've read he has been working on his d in his own end, as i would expect a majority of the young d-men to be doing.
I just feel that with the proper development (which dean is big on) doughty will pan out to be the better/best defenseman in the draft 2-3 yrs down the line.
That's probably the first time somebody called gescom like this. Somehow I don't think this deserves a medal. It reminds me of those crazy IRC channels in 1993-94, when people just couldn't believe they can "chat on internet" and the kids were cursing like maniacs there.
