Wow, thanks for that Charles. It's sad but you sub the word Senators for Kings and the article could still stand. Glad to know we aren't the only ones. Very interesting that the Sens almost had Luongo (and for pretty cheap price too!)
Zatkoff, Bernier, Quick, Ersberg, Taylor... when is the last time the Kings had 5 solid goalie prospects in their system?
(Never.)
It only took 40 years to get a GM who figured out that we need to have several quality goaltending prospects in the system in order to have a legitimate shot at having long-term success in net.
we do, and have lacked a cup-caliber goalie, but the same thing can be said about our d. once both are shored up we will be golden.
it's just common sense. it's just unacceptable when we're giving up 35 plus shots night in and night out.no goalie-not even teh bernier- is gonna be able to handle that for 82 games.
Sure, it's just common sense. Not to rehash all of the discussions that are elsewhere, it was just nice to see another writer describe a different team with the same problems.
The problem is, it gets to the point where there are two kinds of goalies out there...goalies with their names on the Cup, and all of the other ones. Even making it to the finals isn't enough. If you haven't won it all, you're not elite. And if you have won it all, even if you're not playing as well or as consistently as you once did, you're still indisputably a #1 goalie, and some GM will take a flyer on you when you're 40.

Yes, thank GOD Taylor and Murray decided to draft four of those five guys before they got booted.

It's really easy to say that.
But after getting burned with Jamie Storr, would you really go back to that well?
You can agonize over Stankos / Bogosian / Schenn all night, but the future of this franchise turns on whether one of those five will be an All-Star -- for the Kings, not some other team.
And it's so important I wouldn't even mind if DL used the Dallas pick on another goalie, though I doubt he will.

I think anyone who watched Jamie Storr early in his career will tell you two things:
1. He had tremendous talent.
2. He was rushed into the NHL and his confidence was destroyed because of it.
Rushed so much he made the all rookie team TWICE.
If the Kings had the Manchester Monarchs (or its equivalent) at the time of Storr's drafting and had been developed the right way then it is quite possible he would have turned out to be an entirely different player.

YES!
It wouldn't be such a sore spot if the Kings had a steady stream of top goaltending prospects behind Storr - not all or nothing. If Ersberg doesn't work out, there's Bernier. If he doesn't, there's Quick. If he doesn't, there's Taylor. If he doesn't, there's Zatkoff.

I hear ya.
I'd be surprised if we didn't draft at least one goalie this year.
