In the Kopitar interview posted last week he stated that the main camp would be from September 5th-10th.

When I return, there's going to be another month and a half left until season starts. The main camp is going to be somwhere around 5th – 10th September.
Channel 4 did a story on the Kings' kid camp and according to Lou Diamond Phillips (Mario whatever his name is) the Kings' main camp starts on September 19th. Hopefully someone tells Anze.

This is not likely since September 19th is a Friday and their first pre-season scrimmage is September 22nd, giving them just 3 days to prepare. In 2007 their camp started Monday September 10th.

Three days of camp (19th, 20th & the 21st), then the pre-season starts?
Not likely.
I think Kopitar would be better informed than Lou Diamond (Lou Diamond, heh).

I would assume that this years camp would start about the same time Monday September 8th or Monday September 15th, more likely the 8th.
I think they started early since they had to go to Europe to open the season.
Let's work backwards from the first game of the season. This Kings start the 11th. Assuming the 10th is an off-day for the Kings, training camp can start no earlier than the 13th of September (ending on 10/9), with the veterans not showing up until the 20th.
The CBA limits training camp to 20 days for veterans, and 27 for the rest. The CBA also says that physicals can not be conducted PRIOR to the start of training camp.
I would guess that the official start of training camp would be Sunday Sept. 14. The rookies would show up for physicals and photos that day, with the first on ice activity being the 15th. The 50 game+ veterans would show up on the 20th or 21st for their physicals and photos, and start practicing the following day.

They should start it ASAP!!! We need the extra work. New coaches, young players, lots of competition at many positions. Lets get a head start on the rest of the league.
Obviously it's not starting until September, but is there any rule that prevents teams from starting camp earlier?

I posted this in another thread about 3 weeks ago. This was released a while back from the Kings:

The complete 2008-09 Kings/NHL schedule is to be released tomorrow, Thursday. The club’s first on-ice training camp session date is Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.

The CBA has rules on duration of training camp, but every team has semi-formal 'clinics' in the weeks before camp, usually organized by one of the assistant coaches. The players have to chip in to rent the ice (a drop in the bucket at their salaries). Nelson Emerson has been running these at TSC for the last several years. Many non-Kings also attend, if they train here over the summer.

Guess I haven't been paying attention in the past.
Gotta say I'm a little surprised it's only 3 days before the first pre-season game, but, Sept. 20 it is.
That's why I remember it. I thought it odd that they only have 3 days before the first game, but I guess the league wants to increase the number of groin pulls
