About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Oh CBGB...it's posts like this one that make me wonder if you ARE a middle-aged bastard that is bored like Hell or just a 5-year old pretending to be.
The pick is dependent on the Dallas's playoff performance. If they're the first team to get eliminated, it'll be the 16th pick, if they're the second, it'll be the 15th..and so on..if they reach the finals..it'll be the 29th or 30th pick. New rules that went into affect for the draft order.
With Dallas's playoff record (read: first round flops), it'll likely be in the to 20, a tradeable commodity come draft time if you ask me.
Right and wrong. The pick is affected by Dallas' playoff performance IF they make the cup finals. If they win the cup, it's 30th overall. If they make the finals, it's 29th.
However, if they don't make the finals, then it depends whether or not the Stars win the Pacific Division. If they win the division, it's ranked by the divisional winners. Assuming Detroit makes the finals, Dallas, right now, would be the 28th pick since they would have the best record of the division winners. If neither Dallas nor Detroit make the finals, then the pick would be 27th since they would have the 2nd best record of the division winners.
If Dallas doesn't win the division, the pick will be dependent how Dallas ranks/is seeded against the other 10 non-divisional winners.
I'm happy with how he did last year:
* The '08 draft is project to be the best since '03 - when Richards, Perry, Bergeron, Carle and Weber all went between #24 and #49. .
And during that #24-#49, the Kings selected Boyle, Tambellini and Pushkarev.
If you want to be critical of DL, it certainly shouldn't be with his trades. Sorry, but NO ONE thought the Matty trade would immediately help this club. It was a salary dump and DL managed to get a couple of high draft picks, including one that turned into Oscar Moller, out of it. As everyone knows, the only NHL player that came back in the deal was Modry. I still don't like Modry, but I have to give the guy his due. He's played a hell of a lot better than I expected him to and, as much as I loved Matty as a King, I don't think I can say that Norstrom would have been any better this season.
Even if you say Norstrom would have been a little better this season than Modry, you subtract a big chunk of salary cap space, add Oscar Moller and whoever the Kings draft (or whatever they do) with Dallas' 1st round draft pick, and there is no way DL came out on the losing end of that move... particularly when that cap space was used for players that will likely be moved at the trade deadline for even more draft picks/prospects.
The other thing is how has Matty played this year, I haven't seen any Stars games other than the Kings games but looking around on the web he is not #1 on the Dallas fans love list and stat wise is a -8, which is the joint highest on the team with Modano and Barnes
Imagine the threads at the start of the season with Blake playing poorly and what looks like Matty not having a great season
"$10.5 million for those hasbeans - fire everyone involved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
And during that #24-#49, the Kings selected Boyle, Tambellini and Pushkarev.
I am so happy Al Murray is gone.
Really?!? I thought you liked Al Murray.
I've moved on from Boyle & Tambellini over Perry & Eaves. I'm finally over it.
The Pushkarev pick still kills me. We picked three forwards in the first round. Why take a smallish winger when you could have taken Shea Weber (or Matt Carle)?!?
"The Kings will get three draft picks from the Stars -- a first-rounder in 2008, and picks in the second and third rounds in 2007.
Dallas will receive a third- and fourth-round picks in the 2007 draft from the Kings."

His salary is way more than what he's worth at this stage in his career.
Here, in the playoffs, he wandered away to no one leaving Sedin wide open in front.
Good trade for the Kings.
BTW, he could be the one DL wrote in on his whiteboard, who was mentioned on Inside the Kings as "think very recent past". Of course if he did come back next year, it would be at a reduced rate. But, I hope he doesn't come back.
Crawford is not fired yet, stop posting. I agree Preissing blows, but Stuart has been fine. He isn't a top 2 dman, but would love to have him as our #3 or 4.

Lombardi doesn't resign Aaron Miller, who winds up signing with Vancouver for 1.5 million.
Instead, Lombardi opts to sign Tom Preissing at 2.75 a year and Brad Stuart at 3.75.
Looking back, was trading Mattias Norstrom a mistake?
Have Prieissing and Stuart at 6.5 million been better than Miller and Norstrom at 5.75?
Would the Kings have been better or worse this season with Blake/Norstrom, Lubo/Miller, JMFJ/Dallman-Harrold???
Every one of us thought at the trade deadline last season that Dean was making deals to better the club - Conroy and Sopel and Cowan and Avery - but those players and picks won't come to fruition until at least 2010.
His free agent signings have been flops - nearly ALL of them. Not one Selanne amongst the group. Handzus' dreadful deal, an overpaid Calder, the lethargic Nagy and the underachieving Preissing and Stuart.
Which begs the question coming up on the trade deadline...
Do we trust Dean this trade deadline? Will the players he has to replace (i.e. next years crop of free agents) even CONSIDER coming to L.A., or are the Kings once again stuck with the leftovers?
Can Dean bring back those "on the cusp" players (like JMFJ and O'Sullivan) for Blake or Nagy or Stuart or are we just stuck with even more draft picks in the hopes that four or five years down the road they'll turn into the next Moulson (24) or Boyle (23) or Harrold (24)
Many seem to be excited about trading away roster players without being sure what we're getting in return.
