After reading the trade deadline topics, I was thinking about something that we could do with some of the draft picks we have.
I personally have never seen Stamkos play, but everyone here seems to really want him drafted to this team. I've heard he's much better than anyone else in the draft, which got me thinking...say you are Dean Lombardi and the Ducks do happen to have the first overall pick and are set on drafting Stamkos. Would you trade both of our first round picks to obtain that one pick, or would you say forget it and let the Ducks draft Stamkos so we could draft what we really need in a defenseman (Doughty) and keep the Dallas pick too?

Burke would not trade the pick to the Kings and look like a dumb arse. He most likely would be run out of town for trading the the 1st overall pick to the Kings.

Draft Doughty. Trade the second 1st and 2 of our 18000 other pics for Stamkos!
No way does any team trade that Stamkos pick for Dallas' 1st (which will be late 20's) and a couple other picks. But if they do maybe we can also trade our first next year and that 7th we got for Aubin for the third overall.
We don't need a Stamkos, but we do need a Doughty. End of story. If we get 1st overall I would expect Lombardi to trade down. I would only consider drafting Stamkos if we had no takers to trade down and then just trade him away later for a premier defenseman. Just phone up whoever is next and say "we are going to draft the best player possible but lets be honest, you need offense and we need defense, you willing to deal for stamkos or not?" if they do :P great, if not then draft Doughty or grab Stamkos as a future trade asset and maybe do what the Penguins did and package him up for a High-End player.
