"There's a strong possibility there will be a trade shortly," Tallon said Thursday night. "We're looking to get more of a veteran on the back end to help our kids and somebody who fits into our plans."
speculation is that the Hawks are looking for a defenseman. i know that everyone will salivate at the thought of punting Rob Blake to the windy city, but i think that the latter part of Tallon's statement virtually eliminates Rob as a potential target acquisition.
a person or two posited the idea that Tallon may finally have had it up to here with Nikolai Khabibulin and may be looking to move him in the deal.
the "Wall" has one more year remaining on a very VERY large deal ($6.75 million) that he was unable to live up to. i DO however think that it was due in large part to a building Chicago organization, particularly on defense, and serious injury issues to vital personnel up front that greatly affected his performance... and today, he's as up and down as his team is.
does 'Bulin fit your personal criteria for a "proven netminder?" although he turns 35 in a couple of days, he IS better than what we've got, it is CLEARLY a filler and likely won't mitigate Bernier's rise to the number one spot should that turn out to indeed be his destination, and he has a Stanley Cup.
i'm not saying that i endorse this idea... i'm looking for opinions.
Blake would not wave his NTC to go to yet another suck azz team. They would have to be a contender. He would only be a rental. And we'd probably see him in a Kings uni next season for his farewell tour.
And Stuart is our brand new, shiny goat this season. He makes turnovers that give me Modry flashbacks. Then I see Modry on the ice and it really messes with my head.

I think you missed the whole second half of his post.
Gescom, as to your question, **** yes I'd do that.

I hear ya.
Here is my breakdown. Next season is a push too. The Kings will be reeling from this season and just hoping to get a few pieces to tide them over.
But, bringing in Khabi is really not that bad of an idea over all. It would only come out to be a 3 mil difference against the team for only one season. He may bring in a little stability and some calming presence to the back line. Worse case, he fails and we are where we are anyway.
The fact is that signing Stuart for next season may be a little rough. He is clearly not worth the 3.5 to us and there may be a GM out there that just looks at his size and gives him more than the Kings would.
If he were to be traded, his stock is not that high. Getting a guy like Khabi would be a good return in my opinion.
Screw that. Knowing our luck, Nicolai would come here, get hot and we'd end up drafting 5th overall. I'd rather pass on that trade and be in the best possible position to draft Stamkos. And then next year draft Tavares.
Not sure I understand how this helps the Blackhawks for this season and beyond. I thought they wanted a veteran offensive defenseman signed beyond this year. I also thought they'd still need a goalie other than Lalime. Are they getting cap relief, and do they really need it? Would they try to re-sign Stuart despite the unlikelihood of that?

i guarantee you that Dean Lombardi will make a move (or 3) this off-season that will prohibit the 2009 Los Angeles Kings from being able to draft Tavares.
Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon said Friday he's still working on a trade but the timetable has been pushed back a few days. He still believes it will get done, just not until after the weekend.
Tallon said Thursday he's looking for a veteran defenseman to help solidify the defense, help out younger players and still fit into the team's plans for the future.
