About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Yea, it sucks, but thats that. If we were meant to have him, the balls would have bounced in our favor (even with only 18.8%).
Looking at the youth

Looking at the youth of each club, Tampa could use him more than we could. And its probably better for the league to have someone like him in a southern market. Besides, Tampa was really bad this year. Playing in a weak division just didn't make it as obvious.
This draft is going to be amazing for the Kings. We have 3 picks out of the first 32, in a very deep
draft. What is there to be upset about?
This time next year things should really start coming together for the Kings, as far as moving forward with DL's plan. Our Goalie prospects are looking good, Bernier and others are coming along nicely. We need better D prospects which should be taken care of in this draft. We may not be in the playoffs next year, but we should be staring at the light at the end of the tunnel.
We still need some FA signings and some of our veterans to step up their play, but the future is looking bright.
I watched a couple of Lightnings games and you wouldn't be able to convince me that they are a better team than the Kings are. They really deserve to be at the bottom of the league. Just look at their division, that's probably the only reason they had for holding off #30 so long. Stamkos or not, their team is terrible. Next season our team will be even younger, I can't wait to see what Purcell, Boyle and the others can do in the places of the likes of Willsie and Thornton.
I'm over it. Dean has been talking about getting some depth at the D position and here's his chance.

So, who's over it?
I'm bummed but not overly upset about the lottery result. This isn't a post about that. I did want to comment about how Tampa could use him more.
That's BS. First, they won the cup a few years ago. If the Kings had won the cup I would be happy with suckage for 10 years straight.
Second, from the leagues perspective it is ALWAYS better to have your superstars in huge markets like Los Angeles. It is no coincidence that the league was at it's most popular when the Kings had Gretzky and went to the finals in 93 and the Rangers won the cup in 94. The two biggest markets were successful and had super stars leading the way.
It does the league absolutely no good for Tampa Bay to get Stamkos.

It's Tampa Bay - He'll tear up the East and play 2nd fiddle to Vinny C until Vinny's contract runs out and he signs with Montreal.
St Loser didn't get the pick.
We get the defenseman we need.
Negatives:
I will, because I'm an absolute moron, idiot, sucker, kool aid drinker, renew my season tickets because Dean will sign SOME free agent that will make me, once again, have hope... and I will make assinine predictions about how the Kings will make the playoffs.
The Kings are going to suck again next year, especially compared to the other teams that have youth like Edmonton and Phoenix and Chicago and heading out to Staples for 41 games, spending a fortune at the Fox Sports bar and getting fat again because all of the beer I drink, would have been a lot more fun and acceptable had we had a kid named Stamkos to watch. Instead, I get to watch some 18 year old make more mistakes than Jack Johnson did, not be the 2nd selection we dreamed about (that's if he even makes the team. remember, Dean doesn't like to "rush" kids and maybe a season or two in Manchester does the kid some good), and we once again lead the league in the minus department.
I'm afraid, as usual, I can't "get over it".
It took me until THIS YEAR to get over the fact that we drafted Brian Boyle instead of Corey Perry.
It took me until LAST YEAR to get over Steckle and that other guy.
It might take me a few more years to get over Hickey instead of Voracek, Alzner and Sam Gagner.
It's going to take me close to a decade to get over not losing that meaningless game against the Ducks so we could have drafted Kyle Turris (ranked #4 today by HF by the way) instead of Hickey.
So yes, it's going to take me close to 15 years to get over watching Brian skanky Willsie score two goals in the final two games, beat a team that hadn't lost in 20 games, and lose out on the first round franchise selection by NOT a point, but by ONE MEANINGLESS LOUSY WIN.
So no, I won't be "getting over it" any time soon.
Philadelphia went from worst to 6th and didn't have to rely on Van Rymsdyk.
We went from 3rd worst, to 2nd worst.
I'm not about to "get over it"
But that's just me and that's MY personality.
Now, pardon me while I go to my cupboard, break out a packet of Kings kool-aid, mix it with some fairy dust, drink it down, and once again HOPE for the best.
Oh, one more positive:
There's always a chance (albeit slimmer than 18%) that Stamkos pulls a Eli Manning and refuses to sign in Tampa, opting to wait 2 years until he goes back in the draft again. Lord knows, we'll still have a shot at him then.
