I wasn't suggesting trading for another 18 year old goalie. I was suggesting that Lombardi would either draft Stamkos (being that he is the best player available and can make an immediate impact in the league) or that he would trade the #1 pick and acquire a bonafide #1 goalie (which I don't think he should do) or a defensemen and also a pick in the top 5.

What's going to cause a spike to .548+ (the lowest current playoff seed % - what the Preds currently have at the 8th seed)? I was assuming a jump to .500 this year but that obviously was unrealistic.

Look at how sharply the Yotes have turned around and they don't have the talent we do on that team. Look at the Flyers. Both of our cellar-dweller partners are in 9th just out of a playoff spot at the moment.

Subtract December and we are a .500 hockey team. I know you can't just throw out a month, but with all the new faces and youth it makes sense there would be some growing pains. Instead of a month or two to gel, so it took most of the year. Almost all of our young players have taken big steps forward. We are shedding a lot of dead weight. We may not be a playoff team next year but we should certainly be prime candidates to at least compete next year.

Here is the big problem, which is why being a GM is hard. Yes i agree we need defensemen even if we don't get stamkos but who else besides cammy can the kings really give up to trade for defensemen? If we trade too much then we'll have strong D but no scoring talent for the future. We are just going to have to wait it out. I do have faith in DL and i know its going to take another season or two.
