About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Stamkos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sounds like your saying the best defense is a good offense. i don't completely agree with that. we need defense, which is why i believe if we end up with the 1st overall pick draft stamkos and trade cammy for a defenseman.
It's similar, but different.
First of all, I'll begin by saying that I don't know what Lombardi thinks of any particular player; I won't pretend to know, nor will I pretend to know for certain who's the best prospect.
However, my response is to those who doubt the validity of drafting a forward when goal scoring isn't a problem. First of all, the draft is a long term investment that isn't intended to address short term needs. Second of all, even if the players AREN'T scoring goals, people who know how to control the puck, whether it's in the offensive or defensive end, will limit the amount of time the opposition holds the puck, thus giving them less time to generate their own offense.
Re: the 2nd half of your post, I've been a proponent of trading Cammalleri for a while, mostly because he's a supplemental scorer at best. Nothing wrong with that... he's a fine player, but he's not of a "highest paid player on the team" caliber he was trying to get in arbitration. So, I'd be content with trading him for a defenseman even if the Kings draft a defenseman.
It will depend on the situation on whether or not we get him... I'm not going to jump the gun one way or the other this year... I'll be happy with whoever the Kings pick up...be it forward...goalie...or defenseman...
I've heard nothing but good things about Filatov...but I feel that it's going to be a lack of transfer agreement that may drop him to #5... I seriously doubt he'll fall any further...
