About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. The Predators could be after the likes of Tampa Bay's Vaclav Prospal, the New York Islanders' Ruslan Fedotenko and Los Angeles' Scott Thornton.
The Fourth Period :: Nashville Predators :: Predators
I think Thornton could (not saying does) have more value than we all think. He's a rough and tumble guy who plays responsibly defensively, and has enough basic tools to be decent offensively if paired with similar or more offensively aware types. He has one of the best shooting percentages on the team, and all of his goals that I can remember this year have been decent wristshots that just simply beat the goalie.
DON'T get me wrong, I'm not saying he's a diamond in the rough, but I think he could (at best) be a similar acquisition to Steve Thomas when the Ducks made their first run to the cup. This guy plays a playoff style of hockey, I could see him being useful to a playoff team.
Thornton was horrendously underutilized by Crawford. No, he is not a top 6 forward, but how many games did he play in the first 2 months of the season? 3-5? He wasn't exposed much to other teams, he was unable to generate much chemistry with his teammates, and when he finally did get inserted into the line up he usually saw less than 10 minutes of ice time per game.
Now, do I think the world of him? No. I would be glad to trade him. However, I do think he would be a good character player for the right team.
If you get traded, I wish you well Scott.
Pssst... telll the GM we would like at least a 4th rounder for you please! Oh, and bring me back a Nacho's!

I never understood why Thorton has been underplayed either. Good character guy on the ice and brings some toughness this team could have used several times when he was scratched. Teams should want this guy for the playoffs. Well rested and playoff tough.... 3rd rounder required if I were DL
