AHL All-Stars Examined

How relevant is this game? Since 1995, 427 players have participated in the AHL All-Star Classic and more than 93 percent of them have made it to the NHL. This is an ideal opportunity to witness some of the sport's future stars play against each other for one night.

Len, where'd you find that list?
Neither of the links display it.
Let's check out those who are/were solid NHL contributors and those who are not

With some research I was able to find the names. The AHL doesn't track these things like the NHL does. As far as the winners for the MVP goes, I wouldn't put too much stock into it because it is based on the player that played the best for that game only. Winning the MVP in the AHL ASG is not a true gage of weather or not a player is going to make in the NHL. You're better off looking at career #'s in the AHL for guidance on who will have a better chance at making it in the NHL.

Yep, that's what the results pretty much show.

I'd say 4. Walz played over 600 NHL games, scored 100+ goals and 150+ assists. Not a prolific scorer, but turned into a pretty solid stopper-type forward.

i COMPLETELY disagree...

  • Wade Flaherty was a decent backup goaltender for what. 11 years?
  • Jon Sim is an 8-year veteran and has been solid everywhere he's played... and was a favorite to some of us when he played in Los Angeles.
  • Mike Craig was a pretty solid 3rd-liner for about 7 or 8 years there in the early/mid nineties.
  • John Slaney played 268 games over 9 seasons in the NHL as a decent #6/7 defenseman
  • Wes Walz played for 12 F***ING years and was one of the best defensive forwards in the league throughout his career.

  • i think Mike Zigomanis is still at a point where he CAN be considered as a TBD.

i can understand when you knock a couple of 30-year old (or near 30-year old) goaltenders like Pelletier or Brochu, who haven't even sniffed at 10 games in the NHL. but the above mentioned players, c'mon.

OK, I'll give you Walz and the TBD for Zigomanis but that's where I draw the line.

Remember, I said solid NHL contributor, not borderline NHLer.
