Not only have young players improved, but I do not think it is the coaches job to instill effort into a team on a professional level. These guys are getting paid huge $$$$ and if they can not get up for a game, that says more about the players and less about the coach.
Sure a coach should try to inspire, but I have a hard time believing that when the Kings play bad it is crawford's fault and when they play well it is Crawford's credit. Let me put it this way the amount of influence a coach has on the effort level of a team in a given game is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1-2%.
This is a relatively young team trying to learn how to actually bring an A game to the rink every night. You cannot tell me when they suck it is crawford and when they are good it is the players. It is either Crawford all the time or players all the time. Credit where credit is due.
Now if you are unhappy wiith the system of play, or the line shuffling, or something that is a direct result of a decision by the coach at the time of the decision, then I will listen to your argument about Crawford not being a good coach, but that is in a decision making area.
Many of the Kings young players have improved, in fact I can not think of one that has not. You have to keep in mind young players make mistakes and are young professionals. Young players do not always show up for every game of an NHL seaon they are not used to the glitz, glamour, and travel of the NHL, for the most part.
When you are in a situation like the Kings are in where most of the talent on the team is 25 and under and in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year, it is no wonder why they are not consistent. The vets on this team are basically useless, and the UFA signings have not panned out well, but that is not on Crawford, that is on either DL or the PLayers themselves.
A coach's job is to develop and make decisions. Development, I think we are way ahead of schedule; decision making is another story, at this point I niether agree nor disagree.
I will give you three players with which you can see where dramtic improvement has taken place over 1 season:
1) Dustin Brown, turning into a bonafide power forward right in front of us
2) Patrick O'Sullivan, When he was up last year, I could not believe that all we got for Demeitra was him and 1st roound selction, but now when I look at it, we got the better player out of the deal and a 1st round selection.
3) Anze Kopitar, I know he has a ton of taltent already but his overall play has improved offensively and defensively.
But for the people that miss Andy Murray, how 'bout them Blues!? They are currently in the midst of a 7 game losing streak(0-5-2), are 5 points out of the 8th spot in the Conference, have the worst PP% in the NHL and once again an Andy Murray coached team hit the wall in January.

Right on point...... the Andy Murray approach wears hard on veterans and even the younger players can burn out under his micro management style- he is intense but to the point of burn out - I think Crawford will prove to be a great coach as he has with the AV's and the Cannucks--Murray will burn out as he did here from lack of support.
