Say what you will about potential or ability... but Dan Taylor is the only goalie on the Monarchs this season that has a winning record.
His save percentage and goals against are second only to Jon Quick who has only played a handful of games for the Monarchs but has a 1-3 record (1-4 after tonight I believe).
Why then are Ersberg and Quick the two goalies selected for the Monarchs Clear Day Roster?
As long as Ersberg is in Los Angeles Taylor can play for the Monarchs but when the NHL season ends, barring an injury and assuming the Monarchs make the playoffs, then the Monarchs can only play Quick and Ersberg in net.
Ersberg has a 10-13-2 record with a .897 SV% and a 2.92 GAA.
Taylor is 10-5-2 with three shutouts and a .916 SV% and a 2.57 GAA
The Monarchs are 25-26-4 and 6 point out of 8th place and the playoffs.
It should get even more "WTF" next year when you throw Bernier and Zatkoff into the mix. Any doubt there's going to be some glaring favoritism displayed in how they're used?

I wonder if it wouldn't be better for Zatkoff to go the Marty Turco route of 4 full years in NCAA before hitting the pros.

I have no problem with favoring new younger players to find out if the guys you've drafted have any chops... but Ersberg/Quick over Taylor? I don't get it.
It would seem to me that the Monarchs making the playoffs can only benefit the Kings in the long run. So why not let the only goalie with a winning record stick with the team? Where's the incentive to perform if you know your team won't reward your good play unless it suits some kind of prearranged "plan"?

Has anyone yet determined if an NHL Team can have two ECHL affiliates? Because if they can.... that kind of takes the pressure of the Kings trying to fit all the prospects in.
I don't get it... are you saying this post isn't interesting? Or my other recent posts weren't?
The latter.
Dr. Naysay over the last 3 weeks =
1. The Ducks winning the cup and getting the first overall pick.
2. Getting on some sort of bus.
It's refreshing to read anything that's not about one of those 2 other topics.
I'd lump CBGB's Stamkos photo posts in there too but at least those are funny.
You do make a mean podcast though... once I get through the 5 minutes of Oscar talk.
(Of course, most of my posts involve sexy parties and satellite TV - not exactly compelling reading either... never mind, carry on.)

I think Bernier makes the big club. I think Quick is on the last year of his entry-level contract (could definately be wrong about that, I am just shooting from memory), so I doubt he will be kept around. Cloutier will probably get bought out. That still leaves Ersberg, Taylor, and Zatkoff though.

I'd be surprised (and right now - a little disappointed) if Bernier is playing for the Kings next year. My gut tells me he should play at least a year in the AHL.
