About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Obviously a weakness in the organization.
Admittedly DL would like to bring in some grit at the deadline.
Quick search of other possible trading partners I came up with these
Blake for Setoguchi, Wishart, #1 and conditional picks if he resigns up there.
That would be an absolute RAPE of SJ for a rental player in the twilight of his career. I would be hard pressed to believe that you could get Setoguchi+(anything) for Blake.
Can't you just rename the title 'Targeting what Jack Johnson should have been'?
Oh for ****s sake, get over it already. First year in, and yes, not as physical as everyone had hoped, but lets revisit in a few years. Christ.... BEAT THAT HORSE!!!
"His visible assets are easy to recognize – size, mobility, physical aggressiveness, and a heavy shot." -- Inside College Hockey
"He's rough and tumble as a defenseman. He plays with a lot of heart, a lot of passion." -- Mark Morris, Manchester Monarchs Head Coach
Joey Ryan
"Legitimately tough. Plays with nasty physical edge. Likes to initiate contact and throw big hits. Is willing to drop the gloves with anyone. Stands up for teammates." -- Kyle Woodlief, Red Line Report
Patrik Hersley
"Great size and plays very physical. Great timing when he steps up and doles out thundering open ice hits. One of the most punishing hitters in the 2005 Draft." -- Kyle Woodlief, Red Line Report
Niclas Andersen
"He possesses above-average mobility, and just as importantly, will take or dish out a body check. As a result of his aggressive, physical play, Andersén racked up 217 penalty minutes in 36 J20 games for Leksand during the 2005-06 season." -- NHL.com
Josh Kidd
I found the following comment to be rather amusing:
"There's been a couple of instances this season when it's been a smaller guy that I've hit and I've been called for an elbow," Kidd explained. "It kind of sucks sometimes because you know it's a clean hit and there's nothing wrong with it, but the ref will see it as an elbow because that's the height they are." -- Josh Kidd
And that's only after a cursory view as I didn't really go and look at whether Joe Piskula, Richard Petiot, Paul Baier, or Martin Nolet play a physical game as well.
What might be playing into the concept that there's a lack of physical defensemen is that a lot of these guys aren't ready or haven't even reached the AHL level yet.
Just as troubling, I think, is that we're really lacking true offensive defensemen outside of Thomas Hickey, Peter Harrold, Josh Meyers, Alec Martinez, and T.J. Fast with questions regarding just how high the offensive upside is for the latter three guys listed there.

Dumping George Larouque(sp?) in the crease the other night wasn't physical enough or how about going after Chimmera. The dudes played 63 games, cut him some slack.
