With all that he's taken from this team in his first two seasons here and all the animosity that exists about him in fans' minds, how would you feel if Cloutier became a solid netminder for us the rest of this season?
There are several points to consider. If he starts stealing wins for us and standing on his head (I'm not making predictions here - just hypotheticals) would he finally become the goalie we've been searching for and worthy of his high dollar contract? At the same time, he would take the team out of the cellar and therefore cost us a top pick.
It makes sense that he's going to play better for us than he has in the past. He's reportedly finally healed from his injuries that he's had since we signed him. His stint in the AHL was spent mostly on IR.
I wonder how many of us could see past the first two seasons he's been here and support him if he became the #1 again.
What got me thinking about this was the whole "Stamkos" thing. So many people have jumped on that bandwagon, and are apt to jump on ANY wagon passing through, that they seem ripe for disappointment. This is just one scenario that could play out and cause the emotional collapse on draft day (or before) of so many willing to latch on to the idea of a #1 overall pick and the hopes that DL would actually pick the consensus #1 overall player, Stamkos, to say nothing of the dog.
I wouldn't be disappointed to have the Kings draft Stamkos, but I'm not counting on it. I'd much rather see the team continue to improve as they have been.

If Cloutier continues to play well, it makes things easy for Lombardi next year.
We go with LaBarbera and Cloutier next year, Bernier gets starts in Manchester.
Otherwise, you have to wonder about where to stick Cloutier next season minus all the (perhaps valid) excuses about his health this season. Buyout? AHL? And then you still probably need another veteran goalie as a just-in-case option behind LaBarbera.
I am so tired of the absolute stupidity when it comes to Kings fans and Cloutier. What did he "take" from us exactly? Would you "support" him if he became a solid goalie? No, I'd rather go on with a carousel of crap goalies, because I have some personal angst against the guy. Anyone who is still mad, or was ever mad, with Cloutier needs to pull their head out of their a**. The guy came here injured and thought he could play through it. He tried, he failed. He didn't demand a big contract extension, he was given one by DL, with some advising from MC, no doubt. I'm sure if he won the Vezina some of you will still be mad at him and demanding that DL bring back the crap-tastic goalie everyone around here loves so much, Garon. R-Tards.

Yeah, he took the ring right off of everyone's fingers, eh? He lost meaningless games during a rebuild and I'm fairly certain he didn't do it intentionally.
As for my "anger," just frustration that there is an actual conversation about "what do we do if he turns out to be a good goalie?" seems pretty obvious what you do, stick him in the net every game possible.
I agree. I'm not saying I wouldn't welcome him returning to form. Read my original post again if that's what you were thinking. However, I do believe that no matter how good he might turn out to be, there are many here that will always call for his head.

Don't go blowing it out of context. I said he lost us games, not lost us the cup.
With Cloutier and Labs splitting time for a full season, that's still only be about $4M for the entire goaltending corps...If they combined for a save % of >0.910, that'd be the best *value* in the league, assuming that our defensive performance will improve and cut the shots allowed down to the 27/game range.
Suppose Cloutier tears it up the rest of this season
Mysterious ailment for Cloutier and then.........
ERSBERG!!!!!!!!!!
j/k. What a "problem" to have. A back-up returning to form and challenging the #1. I'm sure any team would like to have such a problem. And if fans are stuck on "Beachball sucks" while he is helping the team, they'll just be showing their ignorance.
