Someone posted an interview in here with Doughty where he said growing up, his favorite team was the Kings, since Gretzky was his favorite player...Ok, Doughty was born in 1989, and Gretzky played with LA from 88 - 96.....Seems Doughty would be pretty damn young to base his favorite team and player as a kid seeing as he was 0 -7 years old while Gretzky was a King...

age 6 & 7 is where I decided my favorite teams....I still love the New York Football Giants because they were the best team in Tecmo Bowl which I received for my 7th birthday....

Ive been watching hockey since I was 5, 90-91'. Doughty prolly started watching hockey when he was 3, I mean come on he is Canadian. So he was watching from >92'.

hmm.... interesting theory. i was born in 84, and i would say i loved the kings and the gretzky era (probably from their cup run year and on... yes, i started off a bandwagon fan, but i just never got off).
to be honest, it didn't seem like he was a hardcore fan or anything, based on his answer to the followup question about his teammates. i think it was prolly a team he casually followed (just because of Gretzky's reputation and their cup run) for a couple years, and he figured it would sound good to a rep of the team. not a bad thing, though, because it shows he genuinely would want to come to the kings. just don't expect him to bleed purple and silver yet.

Concur. I'm an 87 and I started watching the Kings (on my own, my parents weren't fans then) when I was around 5 or 6 and knew all of the big name players and idolized them. If you follow a team in your formative years, they're always going to be "your" team.
