About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. So I had been thinking this catching some of the World Juniors... and then again when I heard some talk about the kid but do you think John Taveres (sp?)
So I had been thinking this catching some of the World Juniors... and then again when I heard some talk about the kid but do you think John Taveres (sp?) is tough enough to survive the NHL.. he just seems a little small... but not in the short Cammy/Luc kind of way-- more in a he looks very fragile to me.. I don't know if he could take the beating and wearing of an 83 game schedule.
yeah... EVERY 6-foot 180lbs kid STOPS growing at 16-years old.
I'm well aware of his age (17-- thank you Jim), but thanks for putting the wrong age up there in bright red letters.
I mean it isn't like no one else on this board talks about kids before they hit puberty.
ANYHOW.. even if he does put on 10-15 (as Jim stated above, which is very true), I just don't know if he would be strong enough to grind it out... I didn't come out and he definitely wouldn't be, but it is a thought I had and would like to discuss. Some don't build muscle that well and even when they do, that doesn't mean they have the physical ability (natural physical ability) to make the jump to the pro level.
Edited because I reread Jim's post.

Thoughts?
You bring up an interesting question.
Sadly most of the guys on this board won't be able to answer as their mouths are currently polishing Johnny boys knob orally while simultaneously accepting Stamkoooos in their rears.

Any man can tell you that the difference between the strength of a 16 year old boy and a 19-20 year old man is huge.
There is a thing sometimes referred to as "man strength" and most guys don't feel like they reach their peak in that area until they are around 25 years old. I'm sure that with the proper dedication and training that the kid will be plenty strong when he hits the NHL.
20 John Tavares 6-0, 196, 09/20/1990, Left
Hometown: Oakville, Ontario
2007-08 Team: Oshawa Generals (OHL)
NHL Team Rights: 2009 Draft Eligible
Was the OHL player of the week on two occasions this season.
Was the OHL and CHL player of the year last season, leading the league with 72 goals (breaking Gretzky’s record for goals by a 16-year-old).
Was allowed to play in the OHL as a 14-year-old after being granted “exceptional player” status.
Simmonds is listed at 6'2" 162 lbs.
And can we at least get a few games into the 08-09 season before speculating on Tavares. I do not want to be in the running for Tavares next season unless it is with someone elses pick.
