So, most of us seem to agree that the skills competition was a joke, I watched it on PVR, fast forwarding through and it still seemed incredibly slow. So, I thought I would make some suggestions to improve it and you can all add your own.
BREAKAWAY COMPETITION: Do it in rapid succession - both teams line up at the red line, east goes, west goes the second the east is done shooting, worry about replays at the end. Realistically, the whole team could go in very little time.
HARDEST SHOT: Use both nets, so again east shoots, then right away west shoots.
TARGETS: Use targets that light up when their hit instead of breaking, then you won'
t have to change any and you can go fast.
FASTEST SKATER: Will always be boring, I guess.
Bring back: Rapid fire.
OR
Have the skills competition in the afternoon and then edit it so everything happens a lot faster and air it at night.

I like the idea to have the shootouts like that, except I would have all three shooters on a team go back-to-back-to-back. Then the other team does the same. Having to alternate shots from opposite ends will just lead to confusion.
Hardest shot is fine the way it is. It's better to let the audience be amazed for a minute at how hard the players can shoot.
I like your idea for accuracy. It wouldn't leave TV viewers wondering if the shot connected.
I liked yesterday's idea for fastest skater, but there was just so much confusion for whatever reason.
I enjoyed it, although I would have liked to have seen Kopitar do at least one more event.
My main complaint was mentioned in another thread, on the breakaway/shootout challenges, the goalies need to calm down. No need to come out of the crease and poke check the puck away, let the skater try his move.
I really enjoyed having Legace mic'd up during the young stars game. More of that might be entertaining. Did anyone else hear the goalie (DiPietro, I think) during the last event say, "I just ****ed up my hip again!" after stopping whichever skater went behind the net? Glad it wasn't one of our goalies...
One last suggestion: find another network. Did we ever even see what Kopitar's times were? The production of the whole thing was laughable at best.
My suggestions-get rid of the gay red carpet. Who cares what color of panties Corey Perry is wearing
Bring back the old fastest skater format
Have all the players participate in the Breakaway Shootout so they can all show off their skill
Bring back the full time Young Stars game, or even just 45 minutes.
I could care less about the food at the damn game, plus Levy Restaurants sucks...see the food at Staples Center
High point-having Legace mic'ed up during the night
Also, VS sucked with their broadcast. I hope the league knows this. I mean it was broadcast in widescreen format, and I do not have a damn widescreen TV. Am I going to buy one because of this...NO
Yes they have to bring back the old fastest skater format, or do the two seperately, one for acceleration and one for top end speed.
There are skaters in the league who gain their speed from crossovers, and then there are some who are better at acceleration. I would rather see them take away some of the new crap, like the obstacle course and have the 2 seperate types of speed skating.
What bugged me the most during the whole mediocre broadcast was the skater cam during the shootout stuff. He was way to close to see what the heck was going on. They shoulda used the wide shot, or the behind the net cam one the live attempt, and then used the skater cam as one of the replays.
But the pacing was horrible and there was way too much going on. Interviews during the events, replays while other stuff was going on, confusion about scoring... ugh.
The obstacle course was a joke...only way to make that be good would have a single player run through the whole thing...not the way they did it with multiple players.
The freestyle shootout was fun (although the judging was questionable)...this should have been done by every player and would show the real skill of the NHL.

Forgot about that, they should have just showed it like they'd show any breakaway/shootoout.
BTW, CBC was no better, unless I missed it, we didn't even get Legace mic'd up. Iginla and Spezza were in the intro though
I think the skills competition is a little played out at all of the all-star games. Hell, even the all-star games don't really do that much for me anymore, because the players are not really competing like they used to in these games.
