Nonsense. DL will take the best player available as he has repeatedly said he would. He might trade down for a lower pick, but I would bet he'd prefer to take Stamkos and then trade a winger or promising prospect for a young D-man. The Kings DO need centers. Badly.
didn't he say on kings talk he wants a defensemen?
Man someone really should have transcribed that thing by now.
Do people really believe this? Can you go to a university and get your degree in "winning"? Do you "learn" it like you learn algebra, or biology, or spanish?

I think it has to do with learning how to become more consistent, not letting losses bring you down but rather to learn something from them, and working with the team to turn things around.
So, it's not like a single course, but like getting a certificate from a junior college - a series of courses over a couple of years.
The team is up to its arse in good young forwards. And there's some really good d-men this year. So Stamkos might not be DL's pick either way. If they pick #1, trade it down 2-3 spots and take a great blueline prospect.
Rick Pagnutti was in the era before the entry draft. Doesn't count. Entry draft didn't start until 1969.
One of my favorite Kings stats: Not only have the Kings never drafted first overall, but no first overall pick has ever played a single game for the Kings at any stage in his career. Now that's the black hole.
Bonus points if you can name the first overall pick that was under contract to us, and just never played.
Let's revisit the 2005 draft and redo your post, as if you were a Penguins fan:
You know what, i'll probably get flamed for this. Screw the number one pick and screw Crosby. The Penguins have so many young players as it is. Right now, the Penguins are still looking at 2 first round picks and one of those will be in the top 5. In a deep draft, we're looking at 2 very good players for the future.
BUT, the notion that the Pens need to tank or that winning is bad this year is completely insane (in my opinion). If you look at the ducks, i believe that one of the reasons that they are so good is that their young kids learned how to win fast. Getzlaf and Perry already seem like veteran players because of their playoff experience early on.
The Pens young players have to learn how to win. Even if the wins arent for a playoff spot, like this year. Winning is winning. We have to start doing it eventually. It's not good for this young team to lose so badly for an extended period of time. Guys like Colby Arnstrong have been here for a few years and havent seen much success. Ryan Malone is now on a team that is one of the worst in the league for 2 years running.
The fact that they've been winning recently is great, and i think it sucks when i see people on this board somehow finding a way to complain about that. I, for one, am happy that our GM didnt ship away every veteran on this team for more picks. We have enough picks and prospects as it is. It's time to move on to the next level. Even if they wont make the playoffs this year, a foundation has to start being laid for the present. When i see the team play so well and beat teams that are playoff bound, it's great experience for this team - and i think we'll see that pay off next year.

Bllly Harris who was first overall in 1972 came to Los Angeles in the Butch Goring trade and he played in 117 games for the Kings.
Rick Green was an assistant coach and Dale McCourt was supposed to be compensation for the Red Wings signing Vachon, but he refused to report to the Kings.
I didnt read your post, but the best direction for us to take is as follows:
Get Stamkos.. from what I've heard he is the kind of player we can REALLY build a team around and depend on. If we throw him in there with what we have now, there is no doubt we will be unstoppable offensively.
Trade picks/players (Not any of the youngsters, I'm talking Cammy, Nagy, etc.)/etc for Defensemen
Blow up the Honda Center
Win.
If I was DL I'd parlay some of the picks to get higher picks. Say trade the 30th and 32nd for the 15-18th pick. Then trade 45 and 59 for the 30th,65 and 70th for the 45. With the 72 and 100th for the 60th. And lastly the 125th and 127th for the 90th pick. Ya its good to have 14 picks in the seven rounds this draft but I'd rather have quality than quanity. The Kings already have a tonne of talent we just need some more blue-chippers...
