After the top two, Canada is still able to produce a similar shutdown-but-can-still-score tandem containing Seattle Thunderbirds’ Thomas Hickey and Kelowna Rockets’ Luke Schenn. Hickey, who was drafted fourth overall by L.A. (one ahead of Alzner), is easily the smallest player on the backend, but that’s when his speed and offensive prowness comes in handy. Coach Hartsburg does a great job pairing him with Schenn, in order to give Hickey space to jump up on offense and to utilize his abilities on the ice.
Schenn, who is one of the biggest players on the team, is also the other undrafted defensemen on the roster. His playing style has been linked to punishing defensemen Adam Foote and most recently, former teammate Shea Weber. With his dominating physical presence on the ice, he makes it tough for opponents to generate anything. Oh, don’t be surprised to see more Schenn big bodycheck highlights in the next few games.
I'm almost more excited at the possiblity of swinging a deal to move up and grab Schenn with our 2nd pick than who we take with our first.
Just imagine a future in which the Kings D consists of 3 future Olympians for Canada (Hickey, Doughty, Schenn) + JMFJ.
LA Kings 2009 D:
JMFJ/Doughty
Hickey/Schenn
Visnovsky/Stuart
I'm really curious where Schenn is going to get taken.
There have been strong arguments for Doughty, Bogosian and Pietrangelo and overall this draft is very strong concerning defenseman.
Although i'd really like Schenn to join the Kings because i think he will be a very important piece of a championship team in the mold of Adam Foote i doubt that the Kings think he iis worth to neglect one of the top-3 defenseman (Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo) due to their offensive upside. And he will be long gone when our 2nd 1st rounder is due.
Unless the Kings trade up.
Nevertheless i predict that Schenn will have a better NHL career than Alzner.

Proud supporter of the Los Angeles Lowly Kings.
Too bad we're only going to be able to get one of these elite blueline prospects. There should be some decent d-men available when we get to Dallas' pick though, like Colten Teubert or John Carlson

I get this feeling that Schenn is a guy that Lombardi would be willing to trade up to get if the cost was right. He has all the intangibles that Lombardi loves and his tangibles are very strong in the area that the current Reserve List is weakest at. Plus, he plays in the Western Conference of the WHL which we know Kings scouts frequent so they will be very familiar with his play.
If Schenn were to fall to 9 or 10, I fully believe Lombardi offers up Dallas' pick+ to swoop on Schenn.
