In the one game I saw of Doughty, he looks pretty good. I'll emphasize this is ONE game, but this is what I saw:
In the offensive zone, he needs to realize those stickhandling moves won't work as well at the NHL level. Forwards can get away with it, but as a d-man, he needs to reel that in. His passes are solid, though, especially on the powerplay. The opposing team never pressured him, so it was hard to gauge his "panic level" in the offensive zone. The best part of his play in the offensive zone is his shot. He shoots it low, giving a higher chance of rebounds for the forwards to chip in.
In the neutral zone, this is where I think he really shines. Because the opposition is backing off, he can really get away with his stickhandling to get into the offensive zone. He loves to have the puck, but is just as strong as passing it to someone else. Defensively, he tends to back off; he doesn't challenge the opposition in the neutral zone.
In the defensive zone, there are the usual question marks. This is when he sometimes has a "panic" in his game and he gives it away. One play in particular, he grabbed the puck from the opponent, started skating out of the zone, only to lose it again. During a two-on-one, he skated a little too close to the guy with the puck, even though he managed to break up the first pass. The passer recovered the puck then, since Doughty was too close to him, was able to pass it to the receiver crashing the net. His physical game is a bit understated; he's willing to bump bodies with the opposition. He won't crunch bones, but he'll make the forwards know he's there.
I plan on seeing a couple more before draft day.

His parents are quite LARGE, hence his thick frame... Like I've said before, Doughty and Bogosian would be the 2 defenseman in this draft who would look great next to JMFJ on our back end.
I think Doughty is a hell of a player, but I do not want him for the Kings. He's kind of an in-between player. He's not a forward and pure elite goal-scorer like Stamkos, and he's not a true defensemen like Pietrangelo, Bogosian, or Schenn, he's a little of both and will make a great NHL player for a different team, but the King's need to really start filling in some designated "roles".
In this draft, I think we really either want 1st and get Stamkos, or we want 3rd and get Pietrangelo or Bogosian. If we do happen to get the 1st or 2nd choices however, hopefully we can trade up and get Schenn as well. That would fill 2 definite needs.
Until the Kings can clearly define whom on our team fills each of the following roles, we are not in need of in-between type players. We have too many of those already.
A) True Team Captain (Brown?)
B) Pure Goal Scorer (O'Sullivan? Kopitar?)
C) Shut-down Defensemen
D) Checking/Shut-down line
E) #1 Goaltender (Bernier/Ersberg?)
F) Powerplay Specialist (Visnovsky? -Doughty could add/fill this role)

I can also see Doughty blooming into a future captain, this guy brings fire to the ice every game and always looks to win.
