now...brown stepped in roughed up volchenkov after the knee hit but the rest of the way...nothing....i wish sully lined up...or attempted to line up either of the two when he had a chance...but its not really his game so i can see why he didnt...
anywho, when things like that happen..makes me wish the kings had some skaters who are hard-nosed, kick-your-ass type....**like** darcy tucker, sean avery, lappy, sean o'donnell....the team tough guys...not the enforcers who cant skate or do much else other than drop the gloves....certainly another guy that comes to mind was involved in that brawl in ottawa a few years ago... he was the model player...tough as nails...
frustrates the hell out of me when one of the "core" players is targeted and nothing is done about it....i dont mean bertuzzi type hit....i just mean...big CLEAN hits...

The Kings don't have many players who are brave, stand up for teammates, big brother types, ones who will take a stand when other guys get pushed around. Sure we have Thornton and Ivanans but they don't play a lot of minutes and Jack Johnson just isn't out on the ice every shift because that kid likes to get involved as well.
We are a soft team, something that DL needs to address this summer. But DL is a soft guy so I don't know if he'll add some tough guys.
I mean ever watch a Ducks game? I mean you take a run at anybody on their roster and their whole team stops what their doing and goes after you until they send their message. And no, I don't want to be a ducks fan or anything like that but my point being, this is how winning teams play, and once they have that reputation, other teams are less prone to take runs at their star players.
I'm pretty pleased with the overall direction the Kings are going, but the overall lack of team toughness is going to kill us. We need a hard-nosed power-forward (think young Shanahan or Roberts) who isn't afraid to mix it up to protect our stars. Brown throws some big hits, but he's just not the answer. I'm not really sure who's out there, but DL definitely needs to address this in the off-season.
I kind of wonder why it's O'Sullivan that teams tend to target. Maybe he gets under the other team's skin. Maybe he talks a little on the ice. I don't know. But I'm not too worried about team toughness. It'll come in time, I think. For now, the kids have to learn to protect themselves on their own.

That would certainly be a nice point of discussion to have brought up at the Breakfast with the GM.
We let them get away with quite a bit last night. We had a couple token fights but it seemed more like we were going up to a convicted rapist and saying "you're a bad bad man...ok go about your business". We will continue to get run like that until we get a little tougher.

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. If the Kings ever want to be a "team", EVERYONE needs to play with SOME toughness. I can't believe the other four players on the ice did nothing...well, I guess I do believe it, but it pisses me off. It's not necessarily about size, it's more of an attitude. You CANNOT let anyone of your teammates, especially a top line player, get taken advantage of. Period. This is the main reason I advocate getting rid of 1 or 2 of our solid, but very timid, forwards like Cammalleri or Frolov. I think both these guys are solid, but we need more team toughness at the forward position right now.
I was at the game, and it was defintely noticable that they were going after him. I was happy to see him get that open net goal at the end. But like all of the other posters, I think we need to get much tougher. I think if the game wasn't 1-0, we would have seen more rough play from both teams.

I was at the game too and I couldn't understand why Meszaros wasn't given a penalty when he went after Sully. He speared Sully and gave him a shot to the head right in front of the ref. Didn't make any sense.

Not saying it's a bad thing, but Sully has a mouth on him. I've noticed it a bit over the last few games. He'll jar back and forth, and that gets a teams attention. Again, not a bad thing, just an observation that may be an explanation.
Same thing was happening to Brown and Visnovsky against the Blues, but it was seriously like the refs were blind. Brewer popped Brown in the back of the head like 3 times before he was given anything, and even then, they evened up against Brown. Effing ridiculous.
You could see Sully was boiling underneath too, but he didnt want to take a penalty in a game that close. Good discipline, but our skilled players definitely deserve better treatment than what they've been getting the last couple of games.
