Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford is looking for a puck-moving defenseman and he has had discussions with the Los Angeles Kings about Tom Preissing.
Preissing was signed by the club as a unrestricted free agent in the off-season and hasn't lived up to expectations.
According to one executive, Los Angeles GM Dean Lombardi is seeking inflated prices for his players.
I love the line about DL seeking "inflated prices" for his players. As one of only about 4 teams probably selling this year and a dozen plus teams looking to buy, I'm glad to see we are trying to get as much as we can.
I don't think DL will move all of them. If Carolina (or someone else) really wants Preissing and overpays for him then I would think he woud be moved. I get this feeling that if DL made that move he would NOT trade Stuart at the deadline and will look to resign him longer term........not saying that I would do that but I could see the move
It said "puck moving defensemen" not defensemen. I would love to get Gleason back to get some grit on the blueline. TIMMAH!!!!!!!!!
So, in the end it would be
Ebel For JMFJ?
And, to get even deeper, the only thing Carolina would end up with would be a guy they could have signed without giving up any assets in the off season.
If that trade did happen, hold on tight 'cause the world is about to stop spinnin'
If Carolina is seeking a D-man, why would they give up a D-man, especially Gleason.
With Blake, Stuart and Modry all UFA's, why would DL trade the one veteran he DOES have signed at a reasonable price?
What does that say to UFA players that want to come here?
Preissing isn't going anywhere but back to his house on Manhattan Beach.
At 1.2 mil, Modry is reasonably priced as well. Deano should try to sign Modry for 2 more years and it's one less hole to fill. Modry has been one of our top d-men all season long. Deserves an extension.
