About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. We can't trade everybody off the blue line, it leaves too many holes for next year
Right now we only have Lubo, Preissing and JMFJ out of our top

Right now we only have Lubo, Preissing and JMFJ out of our top 6 signed for next year, if we trade Preissing that leaves 4 holes to be filled for next year

As long as Carolina is fighting for a playoff spot they will hang onto Commodore.
He's a UFA this year, so sending Preissing and his contract for a guy who may walk doesn't make sense.
Now, if Lombardi pushes to sign him in the offseason, I'm all for that.
Preissing under utilized and misused by Crawford this season, IMHO.
Couldn't agree more. He's a power play/passing specialist, obviously not a stopper/hitter/intimidator, so one would think it would make sense to use him that way.
DL knows that but I guess he forgot to tell the coach(es)...

I think the Kings can only afford to lose 2-3 of our defensemen this season, 3 if Blake agrees to return next season. It would not be feasible to lose Blake, Stuart, Preissing, and Modry though. Unfortunately one of them will have to stick around this season.
Blake's play has really picked up since his hip surgery has healed, and while Stuart looked miserable early in the season, he has been one of our strongest defensemen in the past couple weeks. His physical play has also picked up quite a bit.
The only defensemen I think I'd really like to see gone permenantly is Modry. If we can get great value from Blake, Preissing, Stuart, then I am find with trading them, but not at the expense of sacrificing pieces for next year.
I believe we're really onlly have a few holes to plug in the team before turning into a playoff caliber squad. START WITH A GOALIE!!!
you hold on to preissing unless the return is pretty good.
hes a commodity that EVERYONE will want at some point.
he moves the puck
he doesnt turn over the puck
he doesnt take penalties that cost his team
he is positionally sound
he is signed on the cheap
he has been a winner and to the SCF
You will ALWAYS be able to find a taker for Tom Preissing. The smart thing, in my mind (and I suspect Deans) is to hold a guy like that until someone approaches you for him. He's a guy you wont need to shop, no matter how unspectacular he may seem under Crawford.

Not to mention a Right Handed Shot. A minor thing but it's something GMs and coaches take into account, especially when it's a right handed shot that is somewhat dangerous.

it is most definitely NOT a minor thing.
he's on a good AND moveable contract for... he won't be going anywhere at the deadline unless Lombardi really fleeces someone.

Not to mention, we'll need more than 3 or 4 blueliners next season, and we ain't getting much help from free agency.
