Who were the 1st drafted defensemen in the last say, 10 or 20 years? I'm curious to see if the 1st defenseman drafted in a particular draft panned out or was a bust.

More recently it really won't matter because teams are grooming and developing players in the last five year 10x better than they ever have done before. Many players prior to the last five years were often left to their own devices for development. I think current and future prospects will have much better chances developing and finding an NHL game, even players drafted in later rounds.
