If I was a betting man I'd say something is cooking right now in Dixie and it involves DWaddell and DLombardi. I'm thinking a 10-12 player deal that is going to rock the hockey world. We are going to see 'tenders changing hands and D-men and forwards(lots of them). Now for the good stuff...Hossa is coming to town and so is Lehtonen and Little and Iiya Nikulin. Who...only the most dominate young D-man in Russia...After the deal and after the dust has settled LA brings MMoulson and TPurcell back up to fill holes.
I have to ask... do you even make sense to yourself?
I get that, but isn't the draft in place to prevent players from circumventing the fact that they would just go to the team with a) the most money or b) a winnning team. I am just wondering if there is a process that these undrafted guys must go through in order to just sign with ahatever team they like. It seems like it could get dicey in terms of who ends up signing who, and is not necessarily fair for all teams to sign these guys.
Visnovsky was almost 24 when the Kings drafted him. It stands to reason that most players do not reach their potential until they're 25 or so. It stands to reason that many 18 and 19 year olds will become markedly better by the time they are 21 or so, just with physical and mental growth...and proper training, drive and desire to make it.
Some 18 and 19 year olds never develop for a myriad of reasons...and some 18 and 19 year olds who were scouted and didn't warrant consideration to be drafted, become really good players by the time they are 22.

Wow. You must love that little world you live in...
Orr came up through the sponsorship era....You wanted a player, you signed him to your protected list as a 14 year old. Teams in juniors were affiliated with one of the Original Six teams, Orr came to the Bruins through a deal that had the Bruins start a junior team in Oshawa. The universal draft didn't start until 1969 (and even then Montreal had the first 2 picks due to their "cultural option", which is no longer in effect)

I am guessing they can't be draft eligible, to prevent this sort of circumvention.
