My 13 year old son got free tickets to the game last night as part of the SCAHA "CHAMPS" program, so we went, but the tickets were in the 300s (not where I typically like to get seats), section 334 to be precise. About 1/2 way through the game a big group of people showed up and spread out from the right side of 334 to the left side of the next section. As near as I can tell, their sole purpose for being there was to scream a constant stream of obscenities, that didn't have much, if anything to do with the game.
It was clear to me by the types of things that they were yelling, that they knew very little about the sport, and were mainly interested in screaming ***** as loud and as many times as possible. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not above letting some blue language slip on a blown call or something, so it's not so much about the language, but the context and frequency.
So my question is this. Is this typical or atypical of the crowd in the uppers? I'm guessing that it's atypical, and that like us, they got the tickets for free somehow, didn't really care about the game, and were trying entertain themselves/eachother.

Perhaps the Kings still have "College Night" (special discounts w/ student IDs) promotions on Thursdays. I've sat in the 300's on occassion, and recall that when this coincided on Thursdays, I could often count on ribald banter from what appeared to be the USC frat boy crowd.
someone mentioned that to me today and i had to agree that the 300s, specifically between the blue lines, seem to be getting invaded by what he called "raider nation" types. what i've seen more of is a bunch of gang banger types, that don't seem to know anything about hockey, filling up the empties left by STHs that aren't showing up to games anymore. you can tell they don't have tickets for this section by the way they do the one seat shuffle once the usher comes to move them out of their seats. and instead of booting them, the usher lets them stay.

These were what I would call gang banger types. One of the guys would yell something obscene and then look around with a dumb grin on his face to see if he was attracting attention.
I concur, McKingfan. Last night was my final "We're not renewing" night when we had to kick people out of our seats (as usual), had beer spilled all over us every time something happened, unnecessary language and all of the sort. I'm going to enjoy the games from home next season instead of whats becoming the McAfee Coliseum.
I thought LESS people showed up to games when they lose??
I had season tickets in section 334 up until this season and the lower rows were all die hard fans, while the upper rows were all single game tickets sold to somebody who wanted to go to a sporting event without spending too much money. I would say rows 1-7ish are fans who show up every night and who watch the game closely. Everybody above us were losers and wouldn't stop talking about things that had nothing to do with the game.
I have season seats in 331 and we have been surrounded by yahoos for most of the season(when our section isn't empty). They have zero hockey etiquette, standing up every time they think something exciting is going to happen. It does get really frustrating.
